Great tv with one small problem which is easy to fix.

(5 out of 5) by JJP on Jul 17, 2006 (Wiltshire, England)
There is a feature on this TV called "Dynamic Dimming" which can cause the image to flicker/strobe on certain TV broadcast signals. I found this really annoying, so on doing a quick google search I found the answer.

If you switch your TV OFF using the remote, press INFO followed by MENU followed by MUTE then switch it back on again you will see the Service menu on screen, go to option 2 and find "DYNAMIC DIMMING". Then switch it to OFF.

Doing this will improve your viewing pleasure with this TV.

How hard is it to find a good LCD TV?

(5 out of 5) by RetroColumbo on Jun 22, 2006 (UK)
After doing loads of research and looking at reviews in various places, this came out on top.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago now and I am extremely pleased with it.

Not only does it look good, but it is a great TV.

Simple to use, easy to setup, loads of options for sound and picture, connectability is good, headphone socket and freeview is a bonus.

Best of all it's great for DVD's and my xbox360 (it's got a gaming mode too) the Xbox on high def looks fantastic (fight night round 3, wow!)

Only downside I could find is the sound is a bit poor, hey you don't buy these TV's for the sound do you? I just use an external sound system and it's perfect.

Summary:

I wasn't sure which TV to buy and was doing loads of research, I can recommend this TV to anybody, Very pleased.

A great TV for a great price

(5 out of 5) by Daniel Turner on Apr 27, 2006 (London)
Buying a high defintion ready TV has been on my mind for a while now, and I finally took the plunge a couple of days ago.
With the new R7 range being brand spanking new and with a lack of reviews currently available I tentatively took the plunge, got the set home and switched on. The results I'm pleased to say are fantastic. Set up is very straight foward, effectively being plug and play - just keep hitting return and within five minutes the jobs done, with all your freeview stations set up and ready to go. The improved contrast ratio on the R7 makes for a truly dynamic and rich picture quality when watching DVD, although I would advise anyone looking for a truly cinematic experience to pick up a decent speaker system - sound quality is good on the set, but does lack any resonance in the bass end.
As with most LCDs I've checked out, satellite picture quality is somewhat variable - if your signal strength is good you should get a pretty decent picture, but if like me your reception is a little below par that high quality screen really can show up the shortcomings. That said, try switching to the 'movie' setting in the picture menu and tweaking the settings minimally and setting the screen tone to cool 1 or 2 - I found this gave a much better picture for Sky.
Overall I would highly recommend this lcd, particularly if you plan to do alot of your viewing on DVD... and when it's switched off that high polish black surround means the set still looks good in the corner of your room.

Excellent value for money

(5 out of 5) by Mr. R. T. Hamnett on Dec 15, 2006 (Manchester, England)
I have never before written a single review for a product I have bought online. However I felt compelled to tell everyone that after purchasing this product for £800 from a shop, I returned it and ordered it from Amazon (saving me a whopping £170)

I bought the set initially because it was just so asthetically pleasing. However, after plugging it in (with a very simple setup) I was extremely pleased with the results. The in-built digital freeview receiver is of a much higher caliber than the cheap external box I had originally (I ran them both though the new set). It is advisable to turn off the annoying dynamic dimming feature in the main menu.

One of the things that I was really impressed about, was the TV's ability to receive software updates via the normal antenna. I was very pleasently surprised to turn on my set one morning with the message "An update is ready for your system, do you wish to load it now" ...or words to that effect.

Although I read some complaints about the digital EPG being slightly slow, I haven't really found a problem with it. One nice tip is that instead of scrolling down the channel list individually, if you use the Channel UP/DOWN buttons, you can scroll an entire page of channels. The ability to set reminders to watch programs is also included.

I am using this TV as a monitor too. It has a standard D-SUB connection (no DVI). Using Linux, i configured the X server to the TVs maximum resolution of 1360x768 (and using the horizontal and vertical frequencies conveniently listed at the back of the manual). The picture is sharp and crisp...I am thorougly impressed.

One last nice feature, is that the remote control is actually programmable to work with the majority of 3rd party manufacturers' DVD,VCR,STB boxes, which really saves on remote control clutter!

I tried to include in this review things that were lacking (after reading most of the others)

Absolutely Amazing

(5 out of 5) by Mr. K. Ajmera on Apr 25, 2006 (Preston, Lancs.)
Bought this TV couple of days back and its the best purchase i've made in long long time. i was convinced to buy Sony Bravia but Samsung offers great value for money and being the largest semin-conductor and LCD screen producer of the world you can expect excellent quality.
it works perfectly as a pc monitor and you can even split screen to watch tv and do your work at the same time. the picture quality is stunning, hang it, tilt it or put it on a table the matt finished screen looks perfect from any angle.
if you have any doubts about Samsung quality this product will answer it. Dont go for more expensive brands this will beat any of them hands down. Excellent product.
