Fantastic TV, worth every penny.

(5 out of 5) by R. Ross on May 27, 2006 (Aberdeen, UK)
I just received this TV this morning so I thought I would jot down my initial thoughts. The first thing I have to comment on is how quick it was to set-up. Within 30 minutes of putting it on top of my TV stand I had everything connected (TV, Xbox and DVD/HDD recorder), the TV tuned and I was playing Tomb Raider. It comes with built in Freeview but you can also quite easily switch to analogue. The picture is fantastic when on Digital, and even the analogue one isn't too shabby. The common complaint about the 'black' levels with LCD TV's is not present here, the blacks like all colours are perfect. The remote control is a dream to use and has a great button to switch back to the last channel you were watching which is a neat addition. The only negative thing I have heard about this TV is that it doesn't do picture on picture, but that is not a great loss if you've never had it before! At this price this TV is a steal and I can highly recomend it.

BEST LCD AROUND.

(5 out of 5) by ILC on Oct 21, 2006
This tv is good with analogue (provided you get a strong signal),great with dvd,s and superb with high-def stuff(what there is of it!, I was shocked to discover how little HD stuff there is on Sky HD channels but hopefully it will grow fast).Standard definition Sky is of variable quality, presumably depending on how compressed the signal has been but most programmes look fine. You will have to adjust the picture settings as the backlight and contrast are set at maximum out the box which makes for a blindingly bright picture.I eventually settled for Backlight-50(30 when watching in the dark),Contrast-70,brightness-53,Colour-43,Sharpness and Tint should both be left at zero.Turn off all 'picture enhancers'(Anyone who knows about tv calibration will tell you that they actually spoil the picture) that is 'black-stretch,MPEG NR and DNR.Set colour temp to NORMAL.I used a calibration disc to help me arrive at these settings and I now get great pictures from all sources. One other thing, turn off the BASS BOOST as it makes speech muffled.

Lovely LCD TV

(4 out of 5) by CJ on Nov 28, 2006 (UK)
I decided to go for an LCD TV for two reasons: my old 28" CRT TV was huge and was simply taking up too much space, and I wanted to be able to play on my Xbox 360 in high definition.

From a size point of view, this Toshiba is great. Super slim, quite light and its black and silver finish is easy on the eye too. It has plenty of connectivity, as you can see in the spec above.

I found the TV very easy to set-up and the Freeview tuner is very good. I can't get every available channel in my area yet, but those I can get come through very well and the built-in TV guide is impressive.

The picture is vibrant and colour reproduction is good - even blacks mostly look pretty convincing rather than adopting the blue tinge that some LCD TVs can suffer from. I have experienced some image ghosting, smearing and colour banding in apparently lower quality broadcasts and some DVDs. I'm not sure the response time on this screen is as good as it could be, but the majority of the time it seems to be OK.

I certainly agree with reviewer ILC that the TV seems to give a better image without the various built-in enhancers switched on. It's worth spending some time experimenting to see what you find best.

Although the 32LWT66 does not have additional speakers as standard, I have so far found the speakers in the set do a great job. Toshiba have included the SRS WOW sound system, and this coupled with bass boost can give a rich and satisfying sound.

Naturally, this set is HD ready and I haven't got Sky HD or anything like it so can't comment much on the high definition capability. My Xbox 360 image in HD looks very good though. On regular Sky and Freeview the picture is good but it does highlight just how poor Sky's transmitted picture quality can be on some channels at some times. It's acceptable but has made me look forward to the time when HD is more of a standard and cheaper.

This is a good value TV with plenty of HD connectivity for the future and a decent level of performance for now. Picture quality is not as good as I would like, but I guess that is at least partly down to the signal being pumped in, and my set came with one dead pixel - no big deal as it's not noticeable and well, well, well within Toshiba's acceptable dead pixel limit. Trust me, I asked them!

Oh, and the remote may appear to be a bit cheap, but it does a fine job.

Excellent Telly & Great Value

(5 out of 5) by DarrenU on Feb 7, 2007 (UK)
Whe deciding which LCD screen to buy I did loads of research. I was going to get a Sony or Panasonic as that's what I have always had and they have been good but I wanted a screen that was as future proof as possible.

Most 32" LCDs only have 1 HDMI (this has 2) and the comparable Panasonic doesn't have a PC in. I never intended on running a PC through it but now have my Xbox 360 running through PC so my DVD recorder can run through component and both are fantastic.

I bought the Sony 32S2010 for my Mum before buying this and thought that was good - that was when it cost £1200!!! I managed to shop around and paid just over £600 in November for the Tosh and don't regret it.

This is universally praised by all the expert reviews and tend to agree with all the main observations. My only issue is with the controller as it operates like a controller where the batteries are low - slightly unresponsive, but now I just use my Sky controller and everything is good.

Beware!!! If you go to somewhere like Curry's or Comet to check out the quality of the picture the quality on all LCD's looks rubbish - this is because the aerial signal is being shared by so many tellys. Do some research on the main electronic review websites before making your decision. Whe you get it home you will be impressed.

Recommended and at under £600 now a bargain!!

Superb introduction to HDTV

(5 out of 5) by Inspector Gadget on Jul 30, 2006 (London, UK)
This is my second LCD tv purchase and is a whole new level above my old Toshiba 32WL58. I have paired it up with the Toshiba 360E DVD with HDMI cable. The picture from progressive scan DVD is stunning with smooth motion and perfect colour balance. The out of the box set-up is a doddle - Toshiba have done a great job here.

If you have an average size room, a 32" tv makes the most sense. The 2 HDMI sockets mean I can add SKY HD or PS3 as well as the DVD. There are component inputs too which gives more flexability on HD inputs. The picture is great but there is still slight banding on bright lights - but this is minimal and is common to all LCD screens at the moment.

It is cheaper on amazon than when I got mine (darn it!) and I think represents excellent value. It also looks great when switched off too!
