Logitech Cordless Desktop S530 Mac

(4 out of 5) by P. Francis on Feb 2, 2007 (London United Kingdom)
Without doubt this is probably one of the best mouse I have tried.

The various buttons are well positioned and fall nicely within reach of my thumb / finger. The usual left and right click buttons are present together with the scroll wheel which can be used as a third button. To the left of the scroll wheel are two buttons which are used as volume controls for your music player together with a further two buttons, just above where you would place your thumb, that are user configurable. The options available as to what actions each button can be assigned are very good and you really can customize it to suit your needs
The laser tracking is very good and seems to work on most surfaces. The mouse itself is white / silver so it matches nicely with the current range of Apple computers.
Not too sure if the mouse can be bought separately, if so, then it would certainly be worth considering if you need a replacement or spare mouse but have no need for a further keyboard.
And so onto the keyboard. The first thing that I noticed once I took it out of its' packaging was just how slim it is. It matches the mouse in color being all white with a silver wrist rest.
Like the mouse, it has a good selection of buttons that can be configured to suit your needs and to be honest your needs will need to be plentiful as, apart from the extra buttons, the F1-F13 buttons can also be separately configured. The keys have a solid feel to them and overall the keyboard compliments the mouse nicely. Having said that there are a couple of minor things that I wasn't too keen on. The first thing is that I would prefer the tilt adjustment at the back of keyboard to be able to tilt the keyboard slightly more towards the user. It's a personal thing I know but for me the keyboard sits just a little too flush with the surface it's sitting on. The second thing is that there are no lights to indicate that the caps lock / number lock are on.

Both the mouse and keyboard have a good wireless range and are easily picked up by the supplied USB mini receiver. The receiver can be placed in a spare port on your Mac or alternatively you can place it in the supplied desktop holder. Overall the S530 is a very good piece of kit and worth looking at if your after a matching cordless keyboard and mouse setup.

A classy keyboard and mouse

(5 out of 5) by A. Dodwell on Nov 3, 2006 (UK)
This is an ideal replacement for the standard keyboard on any Mac. It's layout is more user friendly (particularly if you are used to using a PC keyboard) and the mouse has a lot more functions than the standard wired Mac mouse.

Furthermore, it looks and feels very classy. The keyboard is very slim (some people may find it a little awkward to use as it lies quite falt on the desk, even with the legs propping up the back).

All in all this is an excellent package, and is far cheaper that the Mac wireless keyboard and mouse.

A classy product.

(5 out of 5) by T. Legge on Jan 4, 2007 (UK)
This is a nice looking and nice feeling wireless desktop set. I tend to find the normal mouse/keyboard combination rather uncomfortable on the wrists, so was pleased to find that this mouse sits very comfortably in the hand. The nine extra 'quick-launch' buttons on the keyboard can be configured to pretty much anything (though the volume and iTune track navigation buttons appear to have fixed functionality). Strangely though the volume control buttons on the mouse are configurable to do anything you like (within reason!). All these extra buttons can save a lot of mousing around the screen to and from the dock etc, which is much more comfortable over long sessions at the Mac.

I had read a couple of accounts of installation and wireless connection problems prior to purchasing this product (though the majority of feedback seemed to be positive), but I can gladly report a trouble free (and quick) install. Having only recieved the product this morning I cannot comment on long-term reliability.

All-in-all this is a worthwhile upgrade over the standard Mac input devices - particularly their one-button mice!

Still a sound investment

(4 out of 5) by Mr. David Halliday on Apr 9, 2009 (Ilkeston Derbyshire United Kingdom)
The Logitech S530 is certainly not the youngest wireless keyboard/ mouse combo available to buy but it remains amongst the most competitive for Macs.
If you are just a casual user then the slim style keyboard that comes packaged with the i-mac is fine and is a well built product but if you are planning to use your key board more thoroughly, say for business use, or are a typist yourself then you may well find that you need a keyboard with the more traditional 'raised' key layout with better spacing between the keys & that offers some additional options. The convenience of a wireless keyboard also means that you do not have to be sitting on top of your computer.
The keys have a reassuring solid feel to them and a smooth action. The wireless reception is fine, this comes with the dongle as part of the package & as long as the keyboard and the dongle can see each other you're guaranteed reception & even if they can't it still works within a reasonable distance.
Unlike the packaged keyboard the 'mighty mouse', although very intuitive & attractive, has a very short lifespan as the roller ball always gives up the ghost and it's accuracy is suspect too.
The Logitech mouse is a real improvement as it is very accurate,(no hunting for the pointer), being wireless really makes a difference with a mouse and this solid item is no exception. It comes with 3 volume controls for your Mac, 2 shoulder buttons, a clickable scroll wheel & two clickable main function buttons. These are all available to be assigned functions as you see fit. Just go into preferences & click on 'keyboard & mouse' to set it up or just stick with the pre-assigned set-up if you prefer.
Needless to say there is no need for a set-up disc as this is recognized straight out of the box.
Both products are well designed, ergonomic and reliable. Each takes 2 AAA batteries but the battery life is pretty impressive. Even so I would recommend investing in a rechargeable set. They will work out cheaper in the end and if you keep a set charged or buy a 1 hour charger you won't have to wait.
The standard products packaged with Macs are fine but this package is a step up and especially so if you plan to do a lot of typing.
A well made product that is worth the investment & is highly recommended.

big lag

(2 out of 5) by Mr. N. Y. Yang on Jun 16, 2008
Be careful - contrary to reviews, there is a lag with both the keyboard and mouse, the keyboard is clunky, and the mouse is heavy and imprecise. definitely NOT a pleasure to use. i would not buy these again and in fact am going to buy a new keyboard and mouse because i cannot work efficiently with the unresponsiveness.
