Don't know why on earth i bought this, after reading many reviews it seemed the best for the price. However the sat nav constantly falls off, the suction doesn't hold it on the windscreen & it drives me nuts!! Do not buy.

First GPS system we have bought as we were travelling to the continent for a holiday. Great value for the price. You can download a free map update from Garmin, but beware this will take hours and we had to do it twice!. The unit comes with a little self adhesive plate so that it can be mounted virtually anywhere. Also has a handy little leather pouch for when you want to store it away when out of the vehicle. If you dont want the latest bells and whistles but need European mapping then I would recommend this item.

I purchased this when i had a long journey to Kent and was not very confident of driving on my own with only a map !! It was a reasonable price hence buying it off Amazon. It is a great little navigator but has told me to turn a few times when there was no road !!! recalculating ..........lol It is very easy to fathom out how to use. I was told to steer clear of tomtoms... my friend bought the same garmin and put her finger through the screen so be careful when putting it in the car.
Waste of time and money

Bought this unit for driving in Portugal and even with 2008 mapping, it was not worth having. Wrong turns, dead ends and a 150m error despite claiming an 8m accuracy. It could be that the Portuguese maps are out of date, but trying it in the UK, it attempts to take me down a road which has been a dead end for over 20 years. My first and probably last GPS. I'll stick with a road map.
Acquiring satellites - how long does it take?

For two thirds of the time, this device works fine. However, from time to time, for reasons only it knows, it just fails to "acquire" satellites when you turn it on and set your destination. I have driven in areas with clear views of the sky, with the antenna properly deployed for 20 minutes, with the GPS still saying "acquiring satellites". Honestly - you could have reached your destination by the time this has happened some times.
I have found that when this occurs, the only solution is to turn the GPS off and on again - amazingly, if you do this, it can suddenly find satellites in no time at all.
The other annoying feature of this device is the propensity of the voice guidance to decide to go completely schtum at certain points - total silence as you face a demanding junction at rush hour. Why the silent treatment, Susan? Are you lost as well?
It would be good if Garmin could address these issues; I've updated my firmware to the latest version but it would appear that Garmin aren't doing any more updates for this model.
