Sony CFDS01CD Radio Recorder

(5 out of 5) by A. N. Myant on Apr 11, 2008 (Europe)
I bought this radio recorder for a friend who is partially sighted. It's perfect, the buttons are big and it's very easy to use at an affordable price.

Does what it says on the tin

(5 out of 5) by Ms. C. R. Stillman-lowe on Mar 11, 2007 (Reading Berks)
I wanted a bed-side table size CD/radio/tape player. This one does the job really well, without looking bulky or ugly. The sound quality is very good - my spoken word BBC version of the Hobbit sounded really vibrant. Recommended.

Compact, good quality, good features

(4 out of 5) by Fink Nottle on Aug 18, 2007 (Derby, UK)
I wanted a decent radio but live in an area with no DAB coverage. This fits the bill perfectly. With 30 presets in FM and AM (which it does automatically) we can switch between all our stations easily. The sound quality is good for such a compact unit and the design is neat, clean and under-stated - it won't embarrass you sat in the kitchen.

Sony CFDS01CD Radio Recorder

(5 out of 5) by Mr. David J. Beavis on May 11, 2009
Purchased as an 11th birthday present for my daughter, original did not work & Amazon Customer Service was excellent with replacement received within 48 hours.
Easy to use with no surplus controls, good tone & not overly large. The cassette function is pretty much redundant for my daughter but the CD is easy to load & plays well, she is very pleased with it- what more could you ask, thoroughly recommended.

Good basic product, but pricey considering the lack of features

(3 out of 5) by R. Welch on May 1, 2009 (London)
I bought this to replace a number of cheaper items which had only lasted a month or two before breaking in one way or another. I was hoping for a better build quality and it looks as if I can cautiously give the thumbs up on that one. Only time will tell though.

When I bought it, I knew it lacked features that, to be honest, I'd expect to be almost there for free these days (e.g. able to play MP3 CDs and perhaps even a USB port.) I didn't figure that it would be missing even more basic things than that, such as line in / out. This is a bit disappointing as it means I can't even route an MP3 player through analogue amplification.

To be fair, it does 90% of what I bought it for, but given its limitations, I'd have difficulty recommending it without qualifications.
