So far so good
This is easy to operate. All the menus are clear to follow .
80Gb seems to be enough for general use.I used the EP setting for recording which gave 4 hours on a DVD,and loads of hours on the hard drive. I did use the lower quality setting and found the playback quality acceptable.
On the down side, there were a few occasions where sections of programs were not recorded properly and were "blocky" looking. However this only lasted for about a second and didnt ruin the film.
The Manual does state that contiued editing on the hard drive will reduce quality and space. There is an option to wipe the hard drive.
This machine really is exellent at time-slip.When the machine is switched on, it continuously records whatever it is tuned to including cable or satellite. It records on an hours loop and you can go backwards and forwards as you like. You can transfer any of your recordings to a dvd to playback in another machine.
This report is for my father's hard drive recorder.
I am now going to order one for myself.

Multi-region hack
I previously owed a Philips recorder which I found very complicated, this one is so easy to use. I would definitely recommend it.
I found the multi-region hack attached to this item was incomplete.
The full instructions are:
1) Setup button
2) Initial set up screen / enter button
3) scroll along top to System info
4) Enter numbers 1101 on remote
5) enter region 0 for region free
6) Press enter then setup button

Daewoo HDD/DVD Recorder DH-6100P
I bought the Daewoo DH-6100P HDD/DVD recorder from Sainsbury for [...].
It is a good machine unfortunately let down by noise from a cooling fan at the rear when in use.
The level of noise is about the same as a busy PC with its CPU fan on.
If you are closer than six foot from it then the fan sound is likely to be a nuisance, particulary when playing quiet music tracks.
Because of the fan noise I would say this machine is best used for recording when you do not want to watch the TV at the same time. For the quieter films I would suggest it is best used by recording to DVD and then playing the DVD on another cheapo player. Having worn out my previous DVD recorder playing MP3 I would suggest you always play DVD on a cheap player and keep your DVD recorder for recording only.
The only operations problem I have found with it is a to do with displaying the internal TV when I have a external scart source attached and powered on.
I have a Bush freeview/HDD recorder attached to one of the scart inputs. If the Bush is powered on then the Daewoo will not display the internal TV channels although the sound operates ok.
This was really confusing at first but now I know about it it doesn't effect me much because I'm only going to use the internal analogue tuner on the Daewoo on rare occasions.
No DV or USB sockets although it does have front phono. Full range of outputs at the rear including optical.
The good points of this machine are:
1. Seems reliable (probably because the internal tuner is analogue).
2. Records to HDD and DVD +R, DVD -R, DVD +RW and DVD -RW (many will only record one or the other).
3. Will dub above DVD types to and from the hard disk, it takes 20 minutes to dub 2 hours of DVD quality video. Copyrighted DVD can not be dubbed to HDD.
4. MP3 can be copied to and from the hard disk.
5. HDD video can be split, so you can split long recordings and then dub them to multiple DVD. This also lets you trim junk from the start and ends of the recording.
6. You can watch one source while recording another eg record from scart to HDD while watching the analogue TV or a DVD.

It's a dream to use
I had an initial problem trying to make it region free but once I had sorted that out I was off! It records really easily, converts hard disc recordings to disc at the press of a button & allowed me to convert all my videos to DVD with ease. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Very unreliable DVD recorder
I suspect that previous reviewers have reviewed this machine when it is still fairly new. When I got mine I thought it was wonderful. While it functions it is brilliant. My first one worked for about 3 months and then corrupted every disc I used for recording. It was taken away for repair and i heard no more. When I complained to Daewoo after a month they arranged an immediate replacement. This one worked for about 2 months and then corrupted discs when I attempted to finalise them. (Now repeat...It was taken away for repair and i heard no more. When I complained to Daewoo after a month they arranged an immediate replacement !!!). I have had the third one for about 6 weeks, it corrupted its first disc today.. maybe a one off but I am concerned it is the beginning of the cycle again. Daewoo's customer support is impressive BUT the guarantee is for 12 months and does not restart with each new machine. If this one has to be replaced it will have a guarantee of maybe one month and I will have been without a DVD recorder for at least 3 months of the guarantee and have had almost every disc I have made corrupted. I would stress that Daewoo are very supportive but a) the machines I have received have all suffered component failure within 2 - 3 months and b) the engineers (who are not Daewoo employees so this may be a regional thing) simply take away the machine but do not reapir it (in all cases unavailability of components was offerred as the reason for not repairing). I cannot recommend this DVD recorder.
