Great box - compact, good picture and easy to set up

Dec 2, 2005 - By C. Foster (North West UK)

I bought this for use in the dining room to save hooking up yet another Sky connection.

I don't see how it could be improved - I'm not sure about special features, but it is very easy to set up (one or 2 button presses), is compact so easy to keep out of the way. A scart and RF lead are included.

Picture quality looks great.

All in all, does exactly what it should and does it well!

Excellent !!

Mar 20, 2006 - By Amazon Customer

This little thing is very fast, has a clear user interface, is simple to setup and so far seems very robust.
It is much better than previous digital receivers I have used costing twice the price.

Excellent buy!

Nov 28, 2006 - By G. Mason (UK)

Highly recommended. Superb picture on widescreen TV in an area known for poor transmission. Easy to set up and navigate. All this for around £20!

Could have been Ronseal(tm)...

Nov 21, 2006 - By Mr. A. M. HOGG (London, UK)

... and that's saying something. Yes, Ronseal don't make FreeView boxes, but if they did, this would have been in their (good) budget range.

Please note, that in this case "budget" does not mean *bleep* (poor product) only existing for those with no other option. True, it isn't a Bentley or Ferarri among FreeView boxes, and therefore may be lite on certain specifications. But it still performed (especially in terms of reception) at least as well as several boxes at least double the price.

For basically £22, I couldn't find better value at the time.

A

PS: Yes, the SCART sockets are close together; though only the chunkiest of connectors should find it impossible.

Digihome Freeview box

Aug 26, 2006 - By R. Hopkins (Guildford, UK)

Plugged in the aerial cable to box (not included).
Plugged a short aerial cable to telly (included)
Plugged scart cable into telly (included)
Plugged into wall (not included)
Put batteries into remote control (included)
Turned all on. It said it would look for channels if I pressed something on remote control. I did. It did.
Numerous new channels previously unavailable appeared on the telly.
Costs the same as 2 months of TV licence.

All happy!
Jolly good.

Despite some comments about the reliability of the unit, mine is still going strong and hasn't caught fire or anything else drastic. The only point I have noticed is that if my mobile phone rings or I use it within 3 meters (!) of the box, then the picture goes blank temporarily. This is because the box is badly screened against stray radio signals, which may explain some of the problems other people are having.

Not having used a digital set top box or satellite service before, I found the multiday programme guide very useful and a handy feature not present on analogue TV. The difference in picture quality between the analogue channels and digital channels is easily noticeable, although my analogue picture was nasty and scratchy. I have no idea how the picture compares to a more expensive box, but it looks just fine to me from a distance of 3 meters!

Still happy!
