Brilliant printer

(5 out of 5) by Mr. G. White on Oct 4, 2006 (Bedford,UK)
I've had my MP500 about a month and all I can do is agree with the previous reviewers. The printer is simple to instal and the software provided is easy to use but not intrusive. Printing photos using the Easy Photo Print software is simple and the print quality is excellent. The auto-sheet feeder and cassette duo allow you to store photo paper in one and A4 plain in the other. Scanning photos and documents is a doddle. I too was persuaded by the reviews on Amazon and I've no reason to be disappointed. Well done Canon!

BUY IT

(5 out of 5) by Mrs. P. Burrows on Sep 21, 2006 (Wigan, Lancs)
I bought this printer based on reviews on this website, I was not disappointed at all, I have never had such quality photos. It is a bit on the large side but I can live with that. Compatible ink cartridges are not easy to come by, I did manage to find some at inkmasters.co.uk but have not tried them out yet, it involves removing the chip from the original cartridge and sticking it on the compatible one.
Set up is very easy and I love the scanning and photocopying functions. I would recommend this printer to anyone

fine printer for a fine price

(5 out of 5) by Arpsy on Aug 21, 2006 (Belfast N.Ireland)
i read carefully the other reviews, was also tempted by the Epson rx620 but decided instead that it was highly unlikely that I would scan old slides or negatives and i used the £50 difference in price to buy paper and extra ink. Very impressed by Amazon price and delivery and printer is perfect for our needs. the quality of photo prints is excellent and cost is offset by the fact that we only print out our favourite shots. lets face it when you shot a roll of film how many of the shots did you stick in the album? Think carefully what you really need from a multifuction before you decide what to purchase and dont get carried away. P.S. I would really appreciate if Daniel Dandoy "Getafix could tell me how he got his blue walker dongle to work with his printer so I could print from my mobile

Brilliant

(5 out of 5) by Will on Jun 4, 2006 (Essex, UK)
Not much to say that hasn't been covered already. It's a big piece of kit but it looks absolutely stunning with its sleek black and silver shell. As others have said, it is a big dust magnet but what isn't.

I printed out a 2cm by 1cm image with txt underneath and the clarity was perfection. Photos are near photo-lab quality, vivid, vibrant and lush. The dual paper feed is a fantastic plus - I use normal A4 in the top bit and photo paper in the bottom tray. A simple button press selects between the two. Text and graphics are also fantastic, text in particular. I printed out a page using the "Times New Roman" font in size 4 and even in such a tiny size as that it was easily readable and very clear.

Scan quality isn't the best in the world, but its certainly not poor. I don't know why the instructions say to leave the cover up when its obvious you are supposed to close it to achieve better results...

Good print quality but incredibly heavy on ink

(2 out of 5) by E. Hibben on Nov 2, 2007 (England)
I spent a lot of time reading printer reviews across a range of websites before buying the Canon Pixma MP500. Particularly wanted one where I did not need to replace all the ink cartridges if just one colour ran out - hence the choice of this particular machine.

Although the print quality is excellent and the photocopy facility very useful, I am annoyed at the number of colour cartridges I have had to buy - when I never ever print, scan or copy in colour. The colour cartridges just drain, whether they are used or not, and if a cartridge is empty the printer will not even print in black and white. So where is the advantage in having separate cartridges?

Now two black cartridges have failed mid use and I am told it is a print head problem in the machine.

A company like Canon should have sorted these problems a long time ago. Am about to buy my student son a printer - and it won't be a Canon!
