photo fantastic
Lacking any experience in the PC or hardware field I opted for a Canon simply because they have a reputation for making good cameras and therefore, I thought, should know something about photo printing. The photo print quality of this machine has to be seen to be believed. It is superb. Even for a novice, and I've never set up a printer before, the installation was simple. Love it already.

Excellent in all aspects !
I'm glad I switched from HP (and ealier from Epson). This is an excellent all-in-one. Cleverly designed.
I like the duplex (2-sides) printing feature altough I did'nt consider it necessary in the first place. The softwares coming with it are useful and yet not invasive. The web print toolbar helps to make web pages printing more cost effective.
Printing and scanning quality is excellent.
The whole product is very easy to use.
Bluetooth is a nice option if you have a good camera phone (k750i ...). That's where the automatic picture enhancing (noise reduction especially) will make full sense.
Take into account that any common USB bluetooth dongle will do (tested the Bluewalker and another 5£ generic one)! No need to spend 40£ in the Canon dongle. This should make the printer even more attractive to you.

An excellent machine
This printer/scanner does all that I could desire in one piece of kit. Excellent colour/b&w printing at good speed per sheet, colour photo prints are vibrant and sharp. Auto sheet feeder and cassette are an unbeatable duo, which makes all printing and copying work a dream. And at this price, a steal!

Canon MP500
I am very impressed with this printer. I was attracted to it initially because of its good reviews - and the fact that most shops have sold out of them It does have a big footprint, but no larger than some other printers and, particularly for its price, it does have far more facilities than many other printers eg two loading trays and double-sided printing. It is let down by not having a USB cable (unless you have one you need to buy one), nor an instruction manual (it has a "quick start" manual, but the main menu is a software copy which is inconvenient). The instructions it does have are written in humteen languages, which makes the less than adequate set-up instructions more difficult to follow. It took me all morning to set it up the printer, and load the software - which incidentally takes up a lot of disc space. You need to read these instructions very carefully, and handle the printer very gingerly, to ensure you set it up properly without damaging the printer, eg it can be trial and error to work out how to open some of the doors on it - best not to force them. Once set up, it works like a dream - extremely quiet, very fast, and pin-sharp results. It does far more than I've used on it so far, and it does look complicated to carry out some of the tasks it can do. But so far I remain impressed.
