Labtec Wireless Presenter

(4 out of 5) by J. Nock on Apr 19, 2007 (Kent, UK)
I think the previous reviewer obviously was having some difficulty with their specific item because my colleague and I have been using our Labtec Wireless Presenters for over 6 months now in a training environment and have no issues whatsoever with the operating range of this gadget.

I like the ability to roam the classroom whilst using PowerPoint, and with the Wireless Presenter you are able to do just that. I train in some large classrooms and lecture theatres and have had no difficulty with the range of this device, being able to use it from the back of the classroom with ease.

It is small and perfectly formed, fits discretely into the hand and has a quality non-slip feel to its underside. The buttons are easily accessible with your thumb (I have large hands and still have no difficulty) and on the whole this is a comfortable presenter to use. The wireless USB receiver is stored within the handset, shutting it off when tucked away so you needn't worry about wasting the batteries (2xAAA, supplied) when not in use (or losing the USB receiver!)

I find the buttons feel a little 'cheap' though and hard to the touch - I would have preferred something a little softer; though that is a purely personal preference. The buttons are very tactile and give very positive feedback with an easy clicking action. The laser pointer is accurate and sharp (bearing in mind it's not going to be used as a sniper rifle attachment!) and the dot is clearly visible even in well-lit rooms.

Functions available are the usual next/previous slide buttons, blank screen and start/stop presentation button. There are no drivers supplied as the presenter doesn't need any - just plug the wireless receiver into a spare USB slot, allow a couple of seconds for Windows to pick it up and you're off.

There can be a slight delay on pressing the buttons if you've not used the handset for a few minutes - this is due to the handsets power-saving features, not the Human Interface Drivers as mentioned in the prevous review. I don't tend to spend vast amounts of time on the same slide anyway and if I do I'm usually revealing parts of it, so I don't tend to notice the delay kicking in at all. If you do find yourself using the handset intermittently during a presentation you'll have to be aware of the delay as the handset 'wakes up' when you use it again.

Overall though, this is an excellent piece of kit which, for the price, cannot be beaten. I would have given it 5 stars were it not for the feel of the buttons, but again I guess at this price I can't complain too much!

Highly recommended.

Excellent

(5 out of 5) by 19riatsala on Jan 5, 2008 (UK)
I have been using this for several months and overall the product is very good value and easy to use. I have not had any problems with the range and the brightness of the laser pointer at a fair distance is very reasonable. The batteries last a good period of time thanks to the system which turns off the power when the USB receiver is inserted into the unit. I have had no problems with different computers recognising the device in different locations.

I have found that using the presenter has enhanced my presentations and seems to impress audiences frequently if they can't work out how the slides are advanced! However, it is also much easier for me since I am not forced to present from near the computer which is showing the slides.

The range of this thing is 2 or 3 feet, absolutely terrible, long delays soemtimes to take commands, probably from using human interface driver, very dissapointed, do not recomend wasting dosh on it!

Superb product

(4 out of 5) by M. Fearnley on Nov 4, 2009 (Lincs)
This is the first of this type of product I have purchased so the review has no comparison. Overall I am very impressed with both the look and feel of the unit. There has never been an occasion so far where i tapped a button and the change didn't happen as per my request. Range is sound, the laser is useful at times and it remains on the original battery set after 3 full days of training.
Great value for money.

Easy-to-use, does all the right things.

(5 out of 5) by AJ H on Mar 8, 2009
This is a fantastic clicker. It does exactly what you need it: go through PowerPoint, start/stop presentations, blanks the screen at your command and has a laser. I've found the range to be good also.
