Absolutely amazing camera for specific reasons

(5 out of 5) by geiger c0unter on May 6, 2006 (London, UK)
Casio made a z750 which was in some respects even better than this camera, but it had a proprietary battery, and had some serious quality control issues. I bought one but had to return it. I was very disappointed because although it had some design flaws, when it worked it was quite amazing. This is a later model and I bought it straight away, and I have been delighted. I think this camera is destined to become a classic small camera for professionals like the Olympus XA series became. Why?

1. It runs on AAs, when you travel, you don't need to carry a charger
2. It has an amazing focus system that can be customised to focus on any zone of the screen, or can make a smart decision for you. No SLR can even do this with such flexibility.
3. There is a viewfinder, this cuts battery use and means you can never get glared out.
4. Operation is very fast, lens pops out fast, lag time low.
5. The menu system is so so so logical, it has been really well engineered, you can find everything, and it makes sense. You can use all the features if you like and it's clear what they all do.
6. There's a calendar function, called a gimmick by some, but it's a fantastic file structure, because you can see what's on the camera and when you took it, by seeing the image on the date.
7. There's an excellent world clock function, that means you probably will change the time when you travel, so you have accurate data on your images.
8. The lens is real and multicoated giving razor sharp images.
9. It records sound, hours of it, without making movies. (This is very rare amongs small cameras, and exceptionally useful), you can also turn the screen off too when its recording unlike other cameras, that chew up batteries lighting up pixels.
10. It has a great clear screen.
11. It's very light and small, taking in mind it has 2 AA batteries.
12. It has an amazing business card function that allows you to photograph things at an angle, and it corrects them. This is like using a shift lens worth thousands of pounds.
13. It has an amazing colour live historgram that gives more information than my Nikon SLR.
14. It has full manual control and manual focus.
15. It has no docking station, hooray, less technoclutter, especially when travelling.

Even my 57 yr old mother has mastered this little beauty!!

(5 out of 5) by Paula Worden on Dec 26, 2005 (Dover, Kent United Kingdom)
I bought this beauty for my mum for christmas and the photo's she is producing are top class. For someone who does not (will not) understand new technology, she found it very simple to use. The point and shoot feature is great, but the extra functions are simple to use too, and really make the difference from a good photo to a GREAT photo. The cost is very good too, just compare it to the rest of the 7.2 megapixel cameras out there. I thoroughly recommend this gem.

Awesome camera and awesome price!

(5 out of 5) by Mr. P. M. Fryer on May 13, 2006
I love my camera, i was thinking of upgrading from my old fashioned 2MP camera and then suddenly out of the blue i saw an ad on every page of the paper for this camera for £150! So the downsides are.... hmm well.....i guess the guys at casio aren't getting paid enough. Nah, its a wicked camera, plenty of pixels, good quality lens, nice colours, nice big screen, loads of manual functions for shutter speed etc. If you want to point and shoot, you can, if you want to make more technically interesting pictures, you can! You can't go wrong buying this camera.

Buy it

Great price, great pictures, easy to use. The designers who made this camera have really thought about how it will be used and it shows. I am delighted with mine.

Two year trial

(5 out of 5) by Christine Schofield on Jul 5, 2008 (london)
had this camera for two years now and have enjoyed every minute with it. I really can't think of any reason to get a newer one - upgrade to what . 7m pixels is still more than I need and the cazmera is a great point and shoot as well as a great one for mauual controls. I suppose now with 10x zooms around ....Still, most cameras are still only 3x. Never thought I'd say it but I love my casio. look around for maybe a second hand one now
