Good, Small, Quiet and ideal for...

(5 out of 5) by TLM on Mar 14, 2008 (Midlands, UK)
I bought this printer with a 12 year old in mind.

REQUIREMENTS:
The printer had to be EASY TO USE, SMALL & QUIET (unobtrusive in a bedroom/study), and ECONOMICAL - with increased levels of HOMEWORK, RESEARCH and 'experimental' use envisaged.

INSTALLATION:
The printer was easy to install and Canon has included drivers for Vista which saves messing around with downloads.

Its very compact size means that it does not have a 'drawer-like' paper cassette. However, it is fine to just leave the paper in the overhanging tray for regular use or to fold it away for occasional use.

PRINTING:
It is quiet and fast enough for home use and the quality of print is very good indeed. Unlike inkjets, the output is always dry - especially perfect for impatient kids!

ECONOMICAL:
Whilst I usually purchase everything on Amazon, amazingly, it was £10 cheaper at a large highstreet retailer + they have an offer on to get a FREE CANON CARTRIDGE after purchase. I am always sceptical about these sort of offers but I followed the instructions on the printer box and I have already received the spare cartridge worth £38-£59.
Canon supply a FULL cartridge with the new printer so, at 2000 pages output per cartridge, we shouldn't have to fork out for more ink for quite a while. At 2p a page, no one will be complaining about the occasional wasted page.

We have also hooked it up to an old scanner and it works perfectly as a photocopier too now.

OPINION:
Very pleased so far. No problems at all and with the Free cartridge, well worth the money (£49.99). Recommended.

hassle free

It just does the job. The first printer I've had for a while which hasn't needed drivers re-installing, refused to talk to the computer, or generally been a pain.

Good and reliable

(5 out of 5) by Davie on Dec 5, 2007
I own this reliable printer, and use it to print documents alongside a HP 7160 for the photo and colour documents.

Quiet in the backgound with good paper handling properties. There have been no issues at all with it so there is not a lot else to say other than it does exactly what it is supposed to do.

EDIT: may 2009 : Still working and still on the first Toner - excellant
