Sony has done it again

(5 out of 5) by Hutchinson on Apr 22, 2006
I bought this system a few months ago now and have really put it through it paces.

It has a dvd player, fm/am tuner, cd player and you can connect it up to your tv via a scart cable and listen to your tv through it. It has 9 different modes of listening and you can select any one depending on what your watching, it even has a night mode, which turns off the sub and projects surround sound from the front speakers, therefore not disturbing the neighbours or kids.

This system really comes alive when you watch a film through all 5 speakers, you have a function built in where you have to set the distances to where you are sitting for the 2 front speakers , centre speaker and the rear speakers. This allows for the unit to process the time delay so you can experiance true surround suurround. It really is very easy to set up and sony have colour coded the speaker leads and speakers so you can't go wrong here. But once its all connected and ready to go it really does impress, just watch Stars Wars 4 for a truly amazing experiance, I thought the star destroyer was coming through my ceiling.

It also has a CD player which produces a really good clean sound, you can select from 4 settings, Rock, Pop, Classical and Jazz, but I think Pop sounds best no matter what i am listening to. It has DSGX button which hightens the bass output.

So I am really happy with this surround sound system, highly recommended.

Sony DAV-DZ100 720 Watt Home Theatre System

(5 out of 5) by C R Alderson on Feb 11, 2006 (Darlington, Durham United Kingdom)
I bought this product back in December 2005 and everything about the system is fantastic and easy to use. Set up was a dream compared to the system I was replacing and there is none of this selecting the source as bascially whatever is on the TV screen is heard through this system and what a sound! I have a Sony 28" CRT 100hz TV (6 yr old) and the speakers are very close to the TV with no picture distortion at all. Played music cd's through the system and I was not disappointed. Top marks Sony!

Look at review by Kate - Spot on!

(4 out of 5) by Mr. S. R. Power on Aug 7, 2006 (UK)
I bought this system recently. Was impressed with the quality of the sound. However, was getting ready to pack it all up and sell it on e-bay because I could only get the surround sound to work on DVD's. Even the sales guy at Curry's said that I would need to buy an additional amp. I then read the review by Kate - - all you need to do is press the function button on the remote to select TV. Assuming you have a scart lead from your Sky going to you TV and a Scart between the DVD & SKY box it works fine. I noticed that there are a couple of reviews saying that you either cannot do it or you have to keep switching the scarts around when playing a DVD or Watching SKY - but this is not the case. It does work & I'm pleased that I read Kate's original posting. Cheers

Sony Home theatre system

(5 out of 5) by Mr. D. Husband on Nov 23, 2005 (Birmingham U.K.)
It was with some trepidation that I decided to put my toe into the DVD market. However, having been a Sony fan since the early 180's and NEVER having been dissapointed with any of their products, I felt that I was on safe ground with this system.
When I first looked at the price, I thought it worth waiting, and wait I did about two weeks when the price was lower than when I first viewed the system at Amazon ,now I wished I'd waited a little longer, but there we are such is life.
The 'Quick set up' facility is brilliant, with colour coded leads for the speakers plugs and they match with the sockets on the back of the amplifier, so you really cannot go wrong.
I was lent a copy of 'The Mummy' by a friend and I was NOT dissapointed with the sound, the bass generator takes care of those who demand heavy bass, but apart from that the system is brilliant. Even the speaker cables are the right length, so the surround speakers which are placed behind you are longer than those that are near the TV, (other manufacturers take note please).
The power output of some 720watts is MORE than sufficient.

Do I recommend this system? YES, wholeheartedly

Great system; dodgy marketing!

(4 out of 5) by Ant on Dec 29, 2005 (Worcestershire, United Kingdom)
This is a superb system for this price, with excellent sound quality. It has an amplifier, DVD player and FM/AM radio tuner all in one slim box. It produces surround sound from 2-channel sources or from DVDs (Dolby and DTS). It has a number of other music modes too.

It's not clear from the spec. that the scart socket is two-way (i.e. not just an output), so it does play sound from TV/VHS (it has a 'TV' mode for that). Watching TV is enhanced, with better sound quality and - if you choose it - surround sound.

The volume of sound is loud (and clear) - enough for loud parties. But it's nothing like the claimed 720W, which would be earth-shattering in a house - like a PA system. The spec. says the amplfier consumes 135W; if it's about 70% efficient, then the output will be under 100W, which seems more likely. I guess the manufacturers are engaged in one-upmanship with the figures, but this is bad marketing. That's why I've given only 4 stars!

Nevertheless, don't let that put you off buying this system, which provides excellent performance and value-for-money.
