Bought it knowing nothing about its capabilities. Found it to be reliable, good colour rendering, reasonably fast.
Bundled software adequate, tho' a little unpredictable at times - usually when I want to do a quick job... hey-ho!
Difficult to beat at the price; looks good, too.
Jim.

I bought the Canon LiDE25 to replace my unreliable Xerox 2400. The LiDE25 is less versatile and flexible in application and somewhat noisier. It is, however, MUCH easier to install and use and produces a highly satisfactory result. The OCR facility is very easy to use. It is also more compact, light, and with a very low power consumption - needing only its USB connection. So far it has been totally reliable, working first time, every time.

It's slow and noisy. The software is poor and the scanner wont get detected by 'scanner and camera wizard' in XP or show up in 'My Computer' like normal scanners forcing you to use the provided software.
The software in simple mode does a really bad job because it post processes the image after acquiring and does it badly, however in advanced mode you can turn off everything except autotone, descreen and have dust reduction at medium and you get a good image.
Dont save in .jpg as it defaults to about 80% quality defeating the point of a 300dpi scan!
Good for occasionally scanning but if you do a lot look elsewhere.

I bought one of these after being very impressed by an earlier version of Canon's "Z-lid" scanners. That one was distinctly faster and produced superior quality compared with the Lide 25. All the same, this model is perfectly serviceable and seems well-made, but it is rather slow. If you do lots of scanning, better spend a bit more to up the speed and convenience.

I had to buy this to replace my Packard Bell 1200 Plus scanner as it was not compatable with Vista (sigh), and PB were not bothering to write new drivers. The canon is a lot noiser and slower than the Packard Bell, but it was very cheap and produces good results. I am quite happy with the Canon (but not Packard Bell).
