Exactly what we needed

(4 out of 5) by Mr. R. B. Allen on Oct 11, 2009 (Stourbridge, West Midlands)
We were looking for a radio with long wave, so that my wife could listen to the morning service that is only broadcast on that wave length. Also a CD player and a cassette machine for our ancient collection.

After perusing the Internet we decided that this model was what we wanted and not being particular about sound quality we have found it to be adequate.

The only downside being that working from the remote control it is impossible to see which mode is switched to and also which station on the radio. A backlight would have been nice. The facilty to see the name of the stations would also have been helpful, rather that having to look up wave lengths. How many people can memorise station numbers, so that reference to a newspaper is required if searching for a particular one? I find presets are not very helpful, as I can never remember which station is set for a particular number.

Otherwise and excellent set.

Excellent quality product

(4 out of 5) by Douglas Maughan on Mar 21, 2009 (Winchester, UK)
-- Well engineered with great quality speakers and sound.
-- at last, a good quality 3 in 1 box - radio, CD and cassette tape
-- because the CD is vertical, it is narrower than other top loading CD players -- but slightly spoiled by the mains connection which sticks into the back. The mains socket should be in one of the sides.
-- Excellent, FM radio with good preset and select controls.
-- Excellent cassette deck.
-- Excellent CD player - BUT - has no memory. Cannot remember last playing position between switch OF/ON cycles; very irritating indeed for CD books. CD books are becoming more common and taking over from books on cassette tapes.
-- rather bulky and heavy (with 6 x C batteries) but that doesn't bother me, as it does with some other reviewers.

-- all in all for me -- excellent. My wife and I were so impressed that we have bought one each.

A pleasant surprise

(5 out of 5) by Mr. J. M. Rogers on Jan 28, 2009
The quality of this beast was a pleasant surprise. It is, of course, well made, as was every Sony item I've owned. The surprise is the sound quality.

It was a late birthday present for my wife, who likes classical music in her room on a mixture of FM radio, tape and CD's. It plays all perfectly (once she found the cassette slot ;-) ) and the sound quality is excellent. I believe it's all do with computers but, to one of my generation, it sounds like magic.

Highly recommended.

(5 out of 5) by Mr. Michael J. Ketchell on Sep 27, 2008
very modern looking, yet very easy to use.
quite a compact unit but pretty weighty...good build quality
best thing is the sound...goes very loud and has a good sharp sound
let alone when you use the bass setting, gives it an extra kick
have played with rock cd's and dance ones
i think it's worth 5/5
