Misleading - the kit is supplemental, not truly alternative

(2 out of 5) by Alijazz on May 4, 2006
I bought this in order to be able to use the Tom Tom Go in more than one car without having to dismantle anything. It wasn't possible. You need part of the original mount, and also you have to supply your own nut to fit any of the other parts on. The instructions are confusing and make no mention of having to supply your own parts.

We have managed to cobble something together, but only by buying two of these kits and providing our own bits to keep things together.

In saying "alternative", I did wonder whether they meant "unconventional" (as in "alternative comedy") because it was certainly that. The kit is useful in that it contains a clip fitting for vent-mounting, which makes the unit less instrusive while driving. Beyond that, it is a big disappointment.

NOT Compatible with 510, 710 and 910

(1 out of 5) by Tromso on Nov 20, 2006 (UK)
I'm very disappointed to find that this item is not compatible with the 510, 710 and 910. I know this now, because on the box it says very clearly that it is not compatible with the Tom Tom Go 510, 710 and 910 ! However at the time of purchasing this item from Amazon, this information was nowhere to be found in the description which only describes the item as "Alternative Mount Kit for Go and ONE".

It seems that the suction mount that comes with the Tom Tom Go has changed with the latest 510,710 and 910 series, so there is no part of it that can be used with this kit. You need the electrical connector part of the Tom Tom Go mount to go with this kit.

If you have a 510, 710 or 910 DO NOT GET THIS KIT.

Alternative Mount Kit for Go & ONE

(3 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 29, 2006
Rather disappointed with this kit. I bought it so that my wife could have a mount fitted in her car in addition to the original in mine, and I expected we could just swap our TomTom ONE between the cars without any fuss. However, this is not possible as the kit is not complete. It requires you to remove part of the original mount and fit it to the alternative one in order to use any of the options of the alternative kit. Also you need to buy a 5mm nut to use with the screw from the original mount.

If you've got a Tom Tom One then you are going to be very disappointed with this kit. If you're looking to simply add an extra mount in a second vehicle this is not the solution. It's just too complicated and you'll need to go and purchase an extra small nut. Forget it!!

Useless for Tom Tom One V2

(1 out of 5) by S. Zam on Jan 5, 2007 (UK)
I was hoping to use this kit to mount the tomtom on the air vent. The kit is missing the mounting plate that actually connects the assembly to the tomtom. The v2 tomtom One is supplied with a sucker based mount that does NOT disassemble. So if you want to use this kit you have to buy another sucker type mount for the One and hope that it can be disassembled and put together with the contents of this kit. Also NO instructions. Alot of expense just to mount on the airvent.
