Excellent value for the price

I bought this DVD player for the Sony make as they're always reliable after my other multi regional player packed up (much cheaper model by an obscure make and didn't last long). It was easy to set up and plays my DVDs a treat (haven't tried the MP3, JPEG, DVD-RWs etc). They only problem I had, which was a real pain at the time, was it would only play region 1 DVDs in black and white. It is listed in the trouble shooter section in how to try and sort it but I didn't have any success. I then rang the Sony Customer Services number listed in the bumpf with the player (which incidentally is an unrecognised number - try 08705 111 999 instead). When I spoke to a Sony spokesman he went on to tell me that "Sony don't make multi regional players and as it had been modified by someone else the guarantee would be invalid", which surprised me somewhat and because of that he was unable to help me with my problem. Be warned Sony are as much use as a chocolate fireguard!! Anyhow, I remembered a review made by 'Frontiertrek' (thankyou so much for your comments) which mentioned putting the player into 'RGB playback mode', which is straight forward to do and since then I've had no problems at all.

So, in all it's a great player with the stiff buttons lots of reviewers have already mentioned but that's the only gripe. I hope my previous comments will help someone else as much as 'Frontiertrek's were to me, should they find themselves in the same position as I was in.

Very good player

I purchased this player because of the very good price and to be quite honest I didnt expect much from it...oh how wrong I was, This player is fantastic I have a few discs that my old player wouldnt play properly or not at all but this sony plays everything I have chucked at it with no problems (dvd+r/+rw/-r/-rw). I have read most of the other reviews and havent had any of the problems some have come across. I liked it so much I bought another for my mum for christmas as its so easy to use even she will be able master the controls. I would recommend this player to anyone.

Exceptional value player!

Received my Sony Multiregion player from Amazon yesterday and am thoroughly pleased. I bought this primarily for it's multiregion capabilities so I'd be able to watch Region 1 discs. The unit's very compact and follows the slim-line trend of all recent players.

Region 1 playback was slightly troublesome at first. The disc would play but with a black and white grainy picture. After a bit of searching on the net for a solution, I discovered I needed to put the player into "RGB playback mode" which was easy enough to do. After that, Region 1 discs all played fine.

Great value for money, and a name you can trust with Sony. Highly recommended.

Slim , Slender , Sensational , oh , and Silver

The Sony DVPNS30 is a very sleek and slender machine. It is also very light , but built to Sony`s usual exceptionally high standards. The buttons on the front are nice and solid , and the display is crystal clear and easy to read.

Take a peek round the back , and you have 3 S-video connections (cable supplied) , and the option to plug in an RGB scart lead or use the coaxial digital connection. The picture and sound when plugged into the S-Video slots on my Sony 28" tv are simply fantastic. My tv doesn`t have virtual surround , but the player comes with this feature built in , and the result from the speakers is amazing.

Setup is simplicity itself. Pick up the remote , and the first thing you notice is that , although not too large , the buttons are all clearly marked and very easy to navigate. The on-screen menus are fairly simple , but neat and uncluttered , which makes jpeg , and mp3 selection hassle free. Unlike some remotes it`s not too heavy either , and a pleasant suprise , is that the battery compartment slides off and on like a dream , without all that fiddling about , which would be good for the elderly or people with hand problems.

So what`s it like to actually use then? Well , the disc tray glides in and out nice and smoothly , and it takes the player a few moments to read the disc. Provided your tv is NTSC compatible , the player will play region 1 dvd`s without any manual intervention. You just have to put the disc in the tray and play it. I`ve also tried it with cd`s , burnt cds , jpeg pictures and mp3s. Whatever disc it has played so far , the sound , image quality , and playback have all been superb.
Your viewing pleasure won`t be effected by the noise of the disc spinning round either , because there isn`t one. This has got to be the quietest dvd player on the planet.

The only niggle I have , is that , the manual supplied , and the sticker on the back of the player suggests that it`s region 2 only. A simple sticker , or leaflet included from Sony to confirm that this is in fact a modified player , and to ignore any reference to the region coding restrictions is all that`s needed.

So , if this is your first dvd player , or you just need a second one to play American dvds , jpegs or burnt cds on , then the Sony DVPNS30 multi-region is the one to go for.

An outstanding development!

The first thing that can be noticed about this DVD player when you first open it is its weight. It is a very light and slender machine made to Sony's usual high standard of quality! It is relatively easy to set up with two different set up options available. You can either connect it to your T.V. using a standard scart lead or for optimum picture quality, you can use the audio/video cord supplied. The set-up menu is fairly easy to follow as long as you keep referring to the instructions so you know what your doing.

The most amazing thing about this DVD is the sound quality. I played my Morrissey DVD on it, and the sound and picture quality was simply stunning! The picture is extremely sharp and full of colour. The eject mechanism is very quiet and smooth. Neither does the disk make any noise spinning round whilst it is playing.

The DVD player can also play many other formats of disks, not just standard DVD films. For the price, you simply can not go wrong with buying this DVD player!
