Excellent piece of kit

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 12, 2006
Having got hooked on DAB with a cheap kitchen radio I wanted to replace my living room hi-fi. Current choice is limited but this model from Sony seemed to offer all I needed.

Sound output is more than enough for the average living room and quality is good. DAB reception very good just using the wire aerial supplied with the system. Excellent value for money and excellent service from Amazon- delivered less than 48 hours after ordering.

If you are looking for a good Micro hi-fi you cant go wrong with this one.

Value for Money

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 27, 2006
I've only had this item for a week but it's a case of so far so good. For just over £150 this is a real value for money purchase. A sylish looking piece of equipment complete with DAB radio, Cd player and a tape deck on top.

An excellent purchase for someone who maybe doesn't have much room but still wants to get the same sound quality and power you would get from a larger product. The sound quality of Cds is particularly crisp and clear. The DAB radio is also a major asset and means that for just over £150 you are paying a good price for a stylish and slick piece of kit.

A good one from Sony

(5 out of 5) by Karen Rickards on Jan 19, 2006
I'm a lover of Sony products so thought this system looked good and sounded good from various reviews. Unfortunately, the tape deck gave up within 2 days (yes I still have tapes!!). Must have been a bad connection somewhere in it as it did sound bad when I first used it. Amazon though sent a replacement the next working day, which was fantastic, good on yer Amazon!

So far everything is fine. It is a brilliant little system which I would recommend to buy if your looking for something small with a bit of meaty sound.

The DAB radio is a great little feature on it. The reception is outstanding with no interference what-so-ever. No need to buy another aerial as the one supplied works a treat. Easy to use and lots of stations to choose from but it's probably best to check whether your area can pick these signals up.

There are some nice little features with it. It looks good, sounds good and at Amazon's price, compared to others on the web and in shops, its cheaper by a long shot.

I have still given it 5 stars, even though the tape didn't work, as it's a good quality product compared to others and it's got a nice dinky remote control with it. If you're looking to get a DAB radio in a little micro system, get this its loud enough to wake the neighbours and looks good sitting on a shelf. Ding Dong.

great musical oomph!

(5 out of 5) by Kirstin Mcnab on Aug 15, 2006 (UK)
I bought this player specifically for the DAB radio, I could never get reception on my last system with "old skool" radio, and I have not been disappointed - the sound quality is great for the price and the extra sound settings just improve it and you get the most fabby bass. However I agree with the guy previous to me in that, since it ticks all the other boxes for DAB, good sound & CD-r/CD-rw playback, why o why have sony held out on the mp3 playback?? where can you get something to fix this?
Having said that I would highly recommend this CD system, this is only a small niggle!

Quality at a reasonable price.

(5 out of 5) by Chris Paneven on Jul 31, 2006 (Tonbridge,Kent,,UK)
After checking several micro systems I finally plumped for this one and I haven't been disappointed. It compares favourably even with much more expensive systems and the sound from the 35W speakers is excellent.Even though bass and treble controls are available there is even more "oomph" if required, from the DSGX function. As I still have a collection of tapes(although reducing by the day) then it was important to have a tape facility and I am pleased to say that this too is excellent.
The DAB radio was a bit hit and miss at first but by extending the line aerial supplied to its full length(and hiding it behind furniture!)it workes brilliantly and an external aerial will not be necessary.
The remote control, thankfully,is not one of those fiddly little plastic things but is a solid and reliable item.

If there is any criticism at all it is that there is no MP3 play facility - but this could always be bought separately if necessary. Overall I consider that the CMTGPX9 is stylish and represents first class value for money.
