Best camera I've ever had

(5 out of 5) by J. Duck on Jun 29, 2006 (nr Whitby, North Yorkshire, UK)
I've been doing photography since I was at least 7years old, and past camera's I've owned include a Halina 110mm thing, a Rollei B35 (a legendary 35mm camera) + an Olympus AM-100.
I'd been toying with the idea of getting a Digital camera since around 2003, but the price tags & my bank balance had other ideas.
A few years and a change of bank accounts later, I decided "s*d it" and bought this one off Amazon for £90 (even though it was a few quid cheaper in BOOTS) on my overdraft facility, having read the reviews of the camera both here & at "Steve's Digicams".

3months on, and I have to say this is the best camera I've ever owned (samples available on YAHOO PHOTOS under the same profile name used here). It combines the compactness & zoom capabilities of the old Rollei, while the screen gives it similar advantages to an SLR (you can see what the lens sees, not what the viewfinder sees).
The only real gripes: On opening I nearly had a heart attack thinking I'd have to send it back because I couldn't find the 16MB memorycard it was supposed to be supplied with..... but it was hiding in the packing the instructions & warranty papers comes in. (hint: upgrade to at least a 128MB card, as the standard one only holds 7images at "4M-Fine", or 15 @ "4M-Normal").
The Camera came supplied with a pair of the appropriately sized standard ENERGIZER batteries..... but they were only good enough to fill the 16mb card about one and a bit times. I've had greater success with "VARTA HIGH ENERGY" batteries (£2 for a pack of 8 from the local WOOLWORTHS) - But better still I suggest investing in a battery charger + a set of high capacity rechargable batteries (at least 2400mAH).

Another bonus feature is you can use this camera like a Camcorder, as it records video clips (complete with sound).

I think I remember some people grumbling in other reviews here about a few little niggles concerning half pressing the shutter to lock the auto-focus on.... but they're just making a mountain out of a mole hill, and it's no big deal if you just LEARN TO USE THE CAMERA PROPERLY! all you gotta is press the button harder.

(5 out of 5) by barrie roberts on Mar 12, 2006 (flintshire wales)
after 30 years of SLR cameras last march i bought a fuji a120 ,brilliant as it was i felt restricted with no zoom,so after christmas i gave the a120 to my wife and bought an a345,brilliant ,so visited spain to see friends ,to be told that there digital camera had been stolen so while there he used mine and he fell in love with it,as i owed him money for car hire he told me to get him one for when he came home,so it is waiting here for him, when i showed our spanish photos to a young lady friend who is 18 this week she borrowed my camera for a party the next day when returned i put the pictures on computer for her and she raved about ease of use and when she saw the prints wow was her reaction ,so please do not tell her but the next day i went out and bought her one with a 256m card and batteries so if i can buy for friends thats the best recomendation i can give

Good until it broke after 4 months

(2 out of 5) by Andy on Jun 21, 2006 (Reading, Berkshire)
It was a nice little camera took good pictures indoors and out. Until it suddenly stopped working after about 4 months with a "Zoom Error" I don't know why that happened it had worked the day before. Obviously not the sturdiest camera.

Feels cheap

(2 out of 5) by Stacy Harrison on Jun 1, 2006 (UK)
This was the 3rd digital camera I had but found it to feel very cheap & plasticy. The buttons also felt quiet lose & didn't feel like they had much use to them before they would fall off. The picture quality was ok but I didn't feel it was up to my previous 2. I won't be tempted to buy another Fiji camera, I sent this one back cause of how it was. I'm now planning to get a Canon or Sony as they are better built.

Good quality pictures let down by poor auto-focus

(2 out of 5) by Tilly's Dad on Jun 4, 2009 (Northumberland, England)
I was drawn to this camera as i have always liked Fuji products, and it was a good price for the spec.
For the short time that it worked it took good quality well exposed photo's. However the auto-focus appears to be it's Achille's heal. It struggled to focus in anything other than reasonable daylight. Then, after one trip out, it refused to auto-focus at all. So I have returned it.
