The little gem of all compacts

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 5, 2005
What can I say - perfection in a compact at last, style, looks, technical performance, reliability, compactness, - it has it all. As a working professional of 20+ years this can be my only choice of pocketable backup. Other reviewers need to be aware of conflicts caused by memory cards etc., and I strongly suspect the unfortunate with the 'soft' images has a faulty camera,(or may find the use of a tripod helps) this can happen with the most sophisticated piece of equipment, but Iam sure Canon will be sympathetic to any genuine complaint. I use the EOS 1DS Mk 2 and D20 cameras and can vouch for the fact that Canon are the leaders in digital camera technology and support!

Owned Ixus700 for 4months, after an upgrade from Ixus500

(5 out of 5) by Kus_i on Nov 28, 2005 (UK and Switzerland)
The pocket size camera is excellent for looks, quality and quick snap and shoot when on the move, not to forget the Macro function too.

The software supplied allows to select all fotos and at a single press of a button removes photos with the red eye problems in low lighting conditions.

Two settings are available for taking video with sound, the higher the setting the better the moving quality and virtually no loss of resolution when you have a proII memory card so it can write/read quickly. 1GB card records continous 8minutes of higher quality recording . This pictures is digital quality similar to largers handheld cam corders except it lacks the quality in the sound area, and its the best movie quality over earlier models or for that fact other snap and shoot products on the market when this model came out.
I generally have short 1 minutes clips and then can edit this (within the camera) to make the best of the moments.

There is also a manual setting for fast action/kidds playing snaps which i find adequate, but obviously not to Pro cameras standards.

Start up is quick and the self timer set with multiple pictures option was fun to use whilst i was on the Alps.

Almost perfect

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 19, 2005
Picture Quality 9/10
Build 9/10
Software 10/10
Useability 9/10
Battery life 6/10

Only the battery life holds this camera back from being perfect (within the limitations of a compact camera). Excellent pictures, beautiful design and because it's so small you can take it anywhere but not so small like an optio s that you cannot use it. really at this price you cannot go wrong.

Better than a Sony

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 17, 2005
I bought a Sony 5MP DSC-10 and it was terrible. There were always disappointments because it "auto focussed" on the wrong object. With a screen too small to tell until download time. This camera is superb, the images are really excellent and the device is smart enough to focus on the right objects! The screen is a good size and very sharp. The software with it is also excellent making it easy to scan, trim and edit. Brilliant.

Ixus 700 delvelops a fault

(3 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 4, 2005
I bought this camera 3 weeks ago having owned owned a Ixus V2 for the last 3 years. The camera is excellent however within a week it developed a fault after 2 weeks. The fault is the lens is stuck out permenent and the camera will not switch on because of this. I now have to see how I get on with Canon and the gaurantee. Compared to the older V2 it is not as robust in feel.Back to the V2 in the meantime.
