Well worth considering!!

(4 out of 5) by Shilen on Jun 12, 2005 (Wolverhampton)
I have had my Ixus700 a couple of days now. I spent a week decided what to go for (others included Fuji, Sony and Kodak) but i opted for the Canon.

First impressions were good, nice design, light weight and a perfect size. It was fairly easy to start taking photos but the array of menus means that it will take a bit of time to realise this camera's true potential. The only gripe I have so far is the Digital Terminal Cover (this conceals the connector for PC link up) it seems a bit flimsy and I think over time and use it will break off.

Accessories? You better get a SD card quickly as the one supplied by Canon is as good as useless, a 512Mb card will get you 240 fine quality pictures. Also you will need a case (Canon dont supply one) because the 2 inch LCD screen will soon get scratched otherwise

Overall very pleased with the camera - Im 99% sure I have made the right choice!!

Impressed Nikon user....

(5 out of 5) by CA Bennett on May 25, 2005 (Ticehurst, East Sussex United Kingdom)
As a Nikon user and fan, I was sad to learn that my sister had bought the Canon Isux 700. I was sure she had made an error of judgement, and when she handed me the camera I was not enthusiastic, and immediately started to look for problems. Within 2 minutes I was converted. It is a brilliant piece of kit, and the photos I took were simply stunning - very sharp, good colour, and on the high resolution, those extra pixels really show their worth when editing and cropping. The flash is also powerful - much better than my Coolpix 5700. Simply excellent camera, and about one-sixth the size of my Nikon. Might have to get one for myself (but don't tell my sister).

three months on and I am even more impressed

(5 out of 5) by Chris on Aug 26, 2005 (sw england)
I did quite a bit of research before choosing this camera, and I did so having read a few reviews saying that Sonys and Fujifilms were generally the better choices. Well that may or may not be true, but I continue to be ever more impressed with this model. Far from regretting my purchase (as can often happen), I am very happy with this camera.
I have taken some fantastic photos, at macro level, portrait, and landscape. Many of these photos compare very favourably with my Nikon f80 SLR (which is a superb 35mm), and the ones at the macro level even surpass it. Colours, resolution, and exposure have all been very good. I have also found it to be very easy to use, once I got used to the menu.
The quality of the video is astounding considering that it is stored on an SD card rather than DV tape. Having taken both this camera and my Sony Handycam on holiday recently, and shot footage on both, I have found that the Ixus videos are good enough to edit into my main home movie. Of course there is a noticeable differnce in quality, especially in the sound, but the fact that I can tolerate a minute or two of the Ixus footage, against a Sony DCR HC40 output shows how good this is.
The other thing that has seriously impressed me is how rugged it is. I have actually managed to drop it no less than three times. The worst being on rocks! Despite this carelessness, it is still fully functional. I did have some concerns over the flimsyness of the cover for the interconnections, and did not think it would last, but it is still going strong, and showing no signs of wear.
Aside from the quality of photos and video, the other feature that I really like is the look and the size of it. It is classy, and it is very unobtrusive and easy to take anywhere.
The two extras that I am using are a Sandisk 1gig SD card, which has worked faultlessly, and the black leather case - which fits like a glove and looks great.
All in all - I LOVE THIS CAMERA!

Lovely little Camera and so capable

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 30, 2005
Well this is the first digital IXUS i have owned and i can't say that i am nothing but impressed with the camera itself. it is very easy to use, great photos, lots of little extras to play with and most of all fits nicely in your pocket. I'm no professional, but i needed something that i could carry easily when out walking or watching sport that i could use without little fuss and It meets that.
Why four stars you ask then, well it's more to do with Canon and what they supply with the IXUS, they let it down in that area. You don't get a case and the SD card is only 32 mb, so straight away your laying out more money just to use it, so bear this in mind when you purchase it, it's worth while buying another card at least 256mb/512mb and a case (if you've got one already this it's not a problem). However as this is canon's flagship in the ixus range then it deserved a little more.

But i am very happy with the camera and what it does, i don't believe your be disappointed. plus i do agreed with the previous comments made.

Ixus 700 is a winner

(5 out of 5) by Ms. P. Hadley on May 16, 2005 (UK)
Picture quality 9/10, some slight purple fringing but otherwise as good as it gets at this size. Build and design 9/10, mat scratch easily but very well built and looks gorgeous. Battery life is the only average thing about this camera and you will need minumum of 256mb memort card. Buy this you will not be dissapointed, a future classic...
