IXUS 700. Canon have done it again!

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Apr 13, 2005
Canon have done it again! A small, compact and light weight camera that is packed full of features. It looks stylish but has an outstanding resolution of 7.1 million pixels. This allows you to use the digital zoom and leaves no graining visible on your photographs. The control panel is easy to understand and use. The shutter lag is virtually non-existant even in low light levels. It's definately a 5 star product, except for the pitiful 32mb SD card that comes with the camera (only 9 photos at 7.1 million pixels!) So you will need to order another card. Amazon also sell a 1 gigabite card which will enable you to take 323 photographs at 7.1 million pixels. The 2 inch screen enables you to view your photographs before using the direct printing function.

Overall a fantastic camera! It out-performed any other camera that I have ever looked at or have owned.

great camera

(4 out of 5) by Chris on Jun 18, 2005 (sw england)
This is a classy compact that takes great pictures. Had it about a week, and am still amazed at the quality of the prints that it generates. Whilst performance for the usual portraits and landscapes is as good as most of the others in the same price range, Macro mode is particularly impressive, with quick focussing and no significant camera shake noticable. Just messing around in my garden I have taken some stunning shots of insects, that I would have really struggled to acheive with other cameras.
Video mode is also a very pleasant surprise. I would disagree with other reviewers who have found the quality to rival that of DV camcorders - the results are nowhere, anywhere near as good as those I get from my Sony DCR - (unless you compare them to the output of the memory stick). So dont be surprised with fuzzy picures and tinny sound - BUT my point is that considering that this is essentially a compact camera, then the quality of the video IS A REAL BONUS.
I have teamed it up with a SanDisk 1GB Ultra card, and they work very well together, and I have taken around 100 pictures and two minutes of video so far without the slightest problem, and everything works very quickly indeed.
Like the previous reviewer, I agree that the PC socket cover is pathetically flimsy, and does not feel that it will last a year. The 32mb card that comes as standard is far too small, and the lack of a case is also a shame. (Although I did actually find a very smart leather case dedicated specifically to this camera in Currys for £20).
All in all I love this camera, its very discrete, classy, and takes great photos, and relatively good video. It doesnt get five stars though for the above reasons.

Best of the IXUS

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 3, 2005
The Canon IXUS 700 surpassed any expectations I had of it. The pictures I have produced from it are sharper than from the IXUS 500 series. It produced amazing clear and brighte images (helped by the brighter flash than it's predecessors) . I have not encountered out of focus instances as some reviews here suggest - just supersharp images of surprising quality from a camera of it's size. I use the digital Macro feature a lot to take close shots, and these have just come out fantastic almost to expensive SLR quality. I would recommend you purchase a bigger SD card - you will use the one supplied in no time. I bought a 1gig card from Amazon for just over £50 (a real bargain). This allows around 9000 low quality images and over 1000 super high quality - and theres up to 20 minutes of movies with sound if you choose! All in all i''ve been extremely impressed with the camera not just in terms of the pictures - but overall build and quality. Only slightly downside is that the casing can be scratched - so do buy a good camera case (I bought the Canon one).

7 megapixals cant be bad

(5 out of 5) by m tennant on Sep 18, 2005 (united kingdom)
The canon ixus 700 is not only sleek in looks but in its 7.1 megapixal ccd which alows you to enlarge the images you take up to a3 size. it comes with a highly repectable 3x zoom which is standard on compact digital cameras. It also has a big 2 inch lcd monitor on the back ideal for viewing back your photos. it comes with 9 scene modes and 3 flash modes allowing you to change the settings to suit you own photographic needs. The ixus 700 is pictbridge compatible allowing direct printing to most photo printers. In the box you will get a 32mb sd card a lithium ion battery a mains plug and a usb lead to connect up to your pc. My only problem is that the memory card supplied can only hold a maximum of eight photos so therefore you really need to upgrade your card to at least 256mb. With a weight of only 170 grams this is truly the compact camera for you.

Fantastic!!

(5 out of 5) by Dodie on Aug 15, 2005
I truly love this camera and was surprised to hear some negatives written about it. I buy a new camera every year and this has been my best buy yet! The pictures are crisp and clear with great color; infact, I have had people ask which camera I have after viewing my prints as they are good. I haven't had a blurred one yet and I've taken hundreds and hundreds of photos so far for personal and professional use.

Although the camera has great functions (and lots of them), it is easy to use for those who like to keep things simple. All you do is turn the dial to automatic and you don't have to think about anything else - just point and click. To view your pics simply turn the dial and you're there!

For those who like a bit of a twist - the camera includes "My Colors" which is mind blowing! For example, you can take a picture and have everything in black and white except anything that is in blue which will come up blue. You select the color you want to be highlighted and point and click. Alternatively you can take a picture and swap colors so that everything that is red will be changed to blue (you choose the colors). Fantastic!

This camera is great and I would highly recommend it!
