Does the job

(3 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 25, 2006
I wanted a wireless internet connection, so I could take my laptop eveywhere in the house, and this product appealed to me, seeing as it comes with the reciever as well as the router. The product is ok, it does the job, but has faults. Firstly, the router needs to be plugged straight into the modem, it would not work being plugged in from another router that distributes the internet. The signal strength shows as low, even though I'm only in the next bedroom. I would have liked it to be more powerful, giving a strong signal throughout the house, which is what most people will want it for. Also, my computer constantly displays it as NOT being connected to the wireless network but it obviously is, because I am able to access the internet and there are no other internet cables coming into my laptop. This product does the job, but is not brilliant.

Works for a day or so then packs up...

Despite being an IT professional with years experience of networking kit, I've never used Linksys stuff before and I doubt I would again. A friend wanted me to setup a wireless network for him so I picked what looked like the best value stuff. I've now had two of these kits from Amazon and both have developed exactly the same fault.

They are dead easy to setup and get working and when they do work it's all fine.

Only problem is they just randomly stop working and then thats it, you can't even connect to them using a cable. Reboots sometimes fix it for a few minutes but they are just to un-reliable.

A search of the net shows others with the same problem and no response from Linksys which is a shame as some of their other products get rave reviews.

Seems this was made for a price and it shows.

1 star because it was quite easy to setup and did connect to NTL first time.
