Better signal strength with old cards

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 19, 2006
Excellent! Had a Belkin Wireless G router (802.11g, nominally 54Mbps) and had very poor signal (often 1/2 Mbps), or no signal at all in some rooms using old 802.11b cards in two laptops. I read about the better signal strength with the Pre-N router (also when using older wireless cards) and... it's true! With the Belkin Pre-N router signal strength in same locations as before is either excellent or very good. If you've had a little experience with routers before it'll be up and running in minutes. Worked for me, I recommend it.

Belkin Pre-N Router

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 4, 2005
I am using the Belkin Pre-N router and PC card inline with NTL BB.

I found the setup of the router pretty straight forward, and the set up all the security to also be fairly easy.

The settings for the router is all done from your browser, and there is useful help and information to aid users.

I find the router to work as i expectected, with good coverage, and a sustained connection.

The 1 and only thing that a can fault (and stop me giving full marks) is that for some reason, if you go to a certain uk broadcasting company website and then attempt to click the link for the weather, you may find that your router no longer responds and you will need to reboot it in order to get the internet back.

Great

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Sep 26, 2005
Had it for a week now, easy to set up, great signal and great security on it too! If anything I didn't need such a good router but it was the same price as lesser models (when I bought from the Marketplace)

good range but failed after 2 weeks.

(2 out of 5) by Will. on May 11, 2006 (United Kingdom)
Dead easy to set up and was perfect for 2 weeks with v good range even with a standard non pre-n card in the laptop.
After 2 weeks it started to become impossible to connect wirelessly without a complete re installation fron the CD, (reset via web interface was no help).
Could see the network from time to time with good strength but no connection even with all security disabled. It was also slowing down my wired ethernet connection looped through it to my desktop--skype calls became impossible.
Called tech support(india) after briefly explaining all my attempts to reset it I was told somebody from a higher tech level would call me back v soon. 12 hours later no call so called back saying I would like a replacement, they took all my mailing details then said somebody else would call the next day--they didn't.
Having had enough by now I returned it to Amazon for a refund.Collection was cost free and speedy--refunded money in 2 days, Amazon are excellent in my view a faultless service.
There are plenty of similar problems posted on the USA amazon.com site about this router so beware.
Replaced it with a Linksys wrt54gs which is excellent so far with just as good range.

Superb - far better than my old USR kit

Only problem during setup with my Dlink DSL-300G+ was I set the Internet connection on the Belkin incorrectly. It needs to be set to Dynamic. Remember that if you change your DSL-300G+ from connecting directly to your PC to connecting via a router (or vice versa), you need to connect up, switch everything on, then reset the DSL-300G+ using a paper-clip and the tiny reset hole at the back. *** Write down your DSL-300 settings first ***. Not sure why you have to do this, but you do...
