Outstanding
Bought about 2 months ago shortly after receiving the Canon S1 IS digital camera (which also is superb) and am extremely pleased. A perfect pairing. Hardly a bad thing to say - looks great (in a shiny black bread bin kind of way ;) outstanding quality for the price, easy setup, extremely quiet, extremely quick (I wondered when it was going to start printing, look down and there waiting is a perfect 5 x 7 print already in the tray!) and the 6 cartridge system is cheaper than others like the much pricier (and lesser quality) Epson range which I will never go near again. Its virtually impossible to tell the difference between photo prints and normal lab prints. Colour balance and repro is excellent. Only slight niggle is the front door / tray is a bit cheap and flimsy, falling open too easily - would have been nice to have had this door improved and the opening mechanism dampened. But don't let this put you off, its well outweighed by the positives.
Highly recommended.

Suberb Results
A keen photographer, I've toyed with getting a photo printer for a while and was about to buy an Epson R800, when I started coming across rave reviews of this cheaper printer. Initially I was hesitant since the Canon uses only four inks (well six, if you include the two blacks) and all the experts seem to say you need 6 or 8 to get real photo quality. I needn't have worried - the results are easily equal to the quality you look for from a professional lab. There is no visible grain and colours are vibrant and lifelike. The printer itself, all sleek and black, looks great - a welcome departure from the bland, bread bin look of the Epsons, and the user interface is easy to understand and does everything you want it to. I've yet to use the CD printing facility so can't comment on that. My only, rather minor, gripe is that if like me you are stupid enough to mismatch the paper in the feed tray to what you've selected on screen, it doesn't detect this automatically and you can end up inadvertently printing only a corner of the image on a 6x4 print when you wanted an A4 print. Other than that I can't think of anything negative. I've yet to run out of ink, but I understand Canon's inks are a lot cheaper than epson inks and last longer anyway. This is a phenomenal piece of kit, the results are awesome and it's a pleasure to use, in short staggeringly good value for money.

Probably the Best All Around Inkjet on the Market
I did quite a bit of research before I bought this printer. I needed a printer that was good with text, good with photos, and economical to operate and the Canon PIXMA IP5000 fit the bill perfectly. To start with the unit is quite good looking as printers go. It has a relatively small footprint and is the quietest inkjet I have owned.
The photo output on glossy paper is exceptional. Because of the new 1 picolitre droplet size, Canon has made an affordable printer that can output 9600 dpi. I can't tell the output from the i9950 at twice the price. The text is crisp and prints fast. The ink is 1/4th the price of Epson and HP and it lasts longer. It also gives you the option of printing on both sides of the paper (auto duplexing) and directly on the front of CD's and DVD's. Amazing. I couldn't be happier!

Brilliant.
I had no idea I could get such good quality for the price. I had it up and running in about 20 minutes and was more than happy. It looks and feels better than any other printer I looked at, and as for the prints, I can't really tell the difference from this and standard processed prints. Type is rendered beautifully, and solid blacks are just that - solid.
What I also liked about this printer was the ability to "close" the printer when not in use. With all the doors shut there's no way in for dust and dirt which is a worry for printers. You don't even have to remove the paper to do so because you have the option of the lower cassette drawer over the manual feed slot.
If you are in doubt - the nice people at Canon will print an image of your choice via their website. You'll be sold.
Box contains no USB cable.

Awesome
I have an EOS 300d (digital Rebel) and wanted a good printer for under £200. I did my reserch and decided on this one. For the first tim, I think digital photos are now (to the naked eye) indistinguishable from standard 35mm prints.
I would definitely recomend this for a keen photographer on a moderate budget.
A worthy investment.
