Top product - probably mis-sold

(5 out of 5) by Lozatron on Aug 2, 2006 (West London)
I have been using my Logitech IO2 pen for around a year now and I've found it invaluable. I use it to take notes in all my meetings - it records words as well as diagrams, sketches and doodles.

What I *don't* use is the character recognition - frankly for my handwriting it doesn't work and even if it did, I wouldn't use this tool for creating emails or word documents - what it's great for is saving diagrams and notes from meetings which are not quite important enough to write up.

I work on the road a lot and having notes of all my meetings for the past year or so on my PC saves having to carry around a dozen notebooks or not being able to recall the discussion I had several months ago which just happened to relate to the meeting I'm in now.

Bottom line is - it's a great tool which might be able to help you manage your notes - just ignore Logitech's attempt to sell you character recognition - it doesn't work and isn't relevant.

Unbelievably handy and useful

(5 out of 5) by Andronichus on May 15, 2007 (England)
Like others on Amazon and beyond, I was skeptical that any digital writing system could help me. I've used PDAs, ink recognition systems, mind mapping software and even micro laptop computers in my search for a quick and reliable note taking system that does not need fingers on a full keyboard.

IO2 does these perfectly.

The special pads are cheap enough to purchase if you are conservative with your note taking and don't leave excessive white space around paragraphs, while the IOTags just add a level of convenience above the digital recording of pages. The handwriting recognition was interesting but accuracy (or more likely my scrawl) were not compelling enough to make it essential. Along with a laptop, mindmapping application, and digital camera whiteboard software this is one of the gadgets that most suits my busy lifestyle.

Perfect tool to automate collection of paper notes into electronic format

(5 out of 5) by Steven M. Ward on Jul 4, 2007 (Milton Keynes, UK)
I used to use a normal pen and write notes and make sketches on various notebooks. Then, after the meeting or session I would take the paper notes and type them into the computer. Only I often couldn't be bothered or couldn't find a way to recreate a complex diagram or on some occasions lost the notebook.

The Logitech io2 is the solution to these issues. During your meeting, planning session, telephone call, training course or whatever you take notes and draw diagrams as usual using the io2 pen and the Anoto paper. Various paper sizes are available but the pen includes an A5 pad which suits me.

To get the notes into the computer, just put the pen into the included docking station and the notes and diagrams are loaded onto the computer where they can be viewed and organised using the io2 software.

I just use the io2 software, but you can also make an image of the notes to send to colleagues as a gif or other image type. There is also character recognition support but this doesn't work too well with my handwriting (numbers and capitals seem to work OK).

So, problem solved and now all my notes are available on my computer where I can sort and organise them in a way that suits me.
