very cool, but not perfect

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on May 17, 2005
Having used this for a few weeks, I must say that a cordless keyboard and mouse is an essential component of a sleek computer system. It is truly wonderful to not be constrained by wires.

Logitech's combination is very cool. The curvy keyboard is very comfortable and easy to use, especially with the ergonomic wrist pad, and looks good on the desk. The media keys are useful, and the volume control wheel has a nice clunky feel. The application switcher is really handy- much better than using Alt-Tab. The mouse has a bulbous front that takes a bit of getting used to, but is comfortable enough. The best feature is that the mouse has rechargeable batteries, and the base station doubles up as a mouse charger. In my opinion, this sets this product streets ahead of the competition.

The software is easy enough to use- it just works. It is easy enough to assign tasks to the custom buttons and to set up your favourite media player to wire into the media controls.

One disadvantage of this product is that the mouse backwards/forward buttons located on the side are sensitive, and it is easy to press them by mistake, as they are right by the thumb. Obviously this makes them useless if you use the mouse in your left hand.

However, my big problem with this product, and the only reason that I cannot give it 5 stars is that Logitech have really annoyingly reconfigured the layout of the Insert/Delete/Home/End/Page Up/Page Down keys. I have been used to the standard layout of these keys and touch-type with them. This has caused a lot of frustration, especially with the bizarre double-sized delete key which has an annoying habit of being pressed more often than it should be. Why such a destructive key needs to be so big is just bizarre.

So, in summary: great product but it is really worth trying before you buy to make sure that you are happy with its little quirks.

Logitech LX700

Excellent... I have a laptop computer without PS/2 ports... I thought when this keyboard arrived that it needed to some how plug through PS/2 connections as the transmitter arrived with two PS/2 plugs (mouse&keyboard plugs) ... but no it also connects directly through the USB...
I didn't have to install software for the keyboard or mouse to work on MS Windows XP but installation allows programming of the keyboard buttons...
My previous tracker-ball mouse still works at the same time, so I can switch between mice if I need to...
The close windows button on the keyboard is a stroke of genius as when you need to close the window you are viewing you can close it with a touch of a button...
The only down point, which is not anything major is, as mentioned in previous reviews is that the delete key is huge (not a great idea as Joe Bloggs with his first computer will end up deleting half the hard drive by accident!!!!)...
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend without a doubt...

not for games...

(3 out of 5) by Darck on Jun 6, 2005 (Glasgow, Scotland)
Great keyboard and mouse, easy to set up and a whole suite of customisible buttons - ideal for browsing/working, etc - but completely useless for games. Any of you who play games will probably say that you shouldn't be using wireless anyway, but I had a Cordless Desktop Comfort (the earlier ergonomic wireless keyboard and mouse set) and played Far Cry and Dawn of War with it no problem - with this new set, there's a substantial lag between the keyboard and receiver and the software you're playing, which causes you to move forward for a few steps then stop. Then move forward again then stop. You get the idea - imagine this with an FPS game and you'll realise how bad this is. There were no such problems with the last keyboard, and the newest driver download doesn't help, even though it includes game settings. Other than that, highly recommended.

WHAT A STUNNER

(5 out of 5) by WEESMALLHOURS on May 21, 2005 (UK)
No problem to set up (quick guide invaluable for a techno phobic), super classy looking, keyboard with 1 touch controls, for media, photo etc etc etc etc, this is a must for anyone wanting to update. HOW DID I LIVE WITHOUT THIS? Oh, no more bothersome wire on the mouse and I tried typing from another room and it was fun to see the document on my screen. Take a little time to get used to the new keys but no problem, QWERTY keyboard still the same. Thanks

Brilliance

this keyboard and mouse combination is sublime!. its fabulous, ergonomic design makes it better than the rest... bar-none. i believe that it is better than the microsoft wireless desktop (as i have previously encountered difficulties with it) and this logitech rechargeable mouse function is amazing.

another bonus to this wireless desktop is the range it gets. i can actually be downstairs and type (my pc is upstairs). i know it seems pointless, but it is just so much fun when turning up the volume from downstairs!!

i highly recommend this "candy for the pc" as it DOESNT slow down the pc (like some other usb based connections) on the contrary, it makes life a lot easier and quicker

it is at a fair price for the both of them (keyboard and mouse)

Buy Buy Buy is what i say!!!
