MX-1000 Review

(5 out of 5) by M. Fisk on Oct

Although I didn't purchase this mouse from Amazon, I thought it'd still be helpful to leave a review. I've been using the mouse for about 2 weeks now and I have to say that it puts every other mouse I've ever used to shame ergonomics wise, including the recent mx-(x00) series, which I thought were good. Having used this mouse and then tried to convert to my flatmates mx-900 the difference in hand position is amazing, and when you consider that the mouse is the most commonly used part of a computer other than the keyboard, £50-60 for a mouse suddenly looks like good value when you're using it up to six hours a day.
The tracking sensor is second to none, just to prove the ability of it I tried playing call of duty while tracking across my face, no problems! worked fine on my duvet, and it has enough range for me to sit in bed and use it to control my pc dvd player from across the room fine. Battery typically lasts for about 2 weeks at 3hrs constant use a day, but that said I haven't run it down form a full charge so don't take that figure as fact!
The cruise control buttons are now better placed, as is the function switch button, and the side-scroll puts microsoft to shame. If you haven't already got an mx-series mouse and are looking to upgrade, this is your mouse.

A stunning mouse!

Just bought an MX1000 Laser and can only say how brilliant it is. The ergonomics are unreal, in fact I've never held a mouse that feels this good. All the buttons are exactly where they are needed and click precisely and confidently and are not located where you may click them by mistake. This is a large mouse, perfect for those of us with large hands, yet apparently very comfortable for smaller hands (says my girlfriend!). It fits very snugly into the charging cradle, in fact looks very good sat there next to my silver TFT monitor. The battery consumption is superb, mainly due to ditching the old AA type batteries in favour of a long lasting lithium-ion battery. There is also a battery power indicator located perfectly on the mouse, which tells you the battery's current charge. There is no delay at all when moving the mouse from cold/battery saving mode and the software provided is very good, with plenty of scope for customisation of your mouse. The one and only complaint I have is that the power adapter that came in the box was an International 2-pin type and so I had to purchase a separate 2-pin to 3-pin adapter, this was presumably because the pack and contents came in the form of an "International Version" rather than UK version. Anyway, to sum up, I can't recommend this mouse highly enough, it is superb and well worth the money, you will not be disappointed. Logitech certainly know what they are doing, I think I will now go and buy a Logitech keyboard!

Logitech MX 1000 - Mouse

This is a very sleek but expensive item.
It is currently 20 pounds more than the Logitech MX 700 Cordless Optical Mouse. Which is a lot of money. But, if you are already prepared to spend 40 pounds on a mouse the extra bit may not seem too bad. It is very easy to install and sits in your hand perfectly.
The charging cradle is rhobust and charges the mouse very quickly. Whilst also being very slick...
I have had no problems with this item

Mac OS X users DO NOT buy this mouse!

(1 out of 5) by N. Coper on Jan

I use a Mac running OS X 10.3.7 and have been using the predecessor to this mouse, the Logitech MX700, all year without any problems. I bought the MX1000 today as an impulse buy (also because it was cheap) and wish I had done some research first.
The mouse JUMPS to the edge of the screen or a few inches in a random direction often (3 times in less than 5 minutes at last count). Logitech support forum states this is a known issue and you can correct it by downloading SetPoint. Great if you own a Windows machine, Apple users are left sitting in the dark. They also state the jumping only occurs if you use the USB connection and another solution is to connection via PS2 port. Again, great for windows users but for laptop users and Apple users who have no PS2 port not the best cure.
I would take it back but I am currently in USA and heading back to UK tomorrow morning so can't get back to the store. Since it's still new, think I'm going to box it back up and give it to my dad as an extra Christmas present, he's a Windows user so he can combat the jumping.
Just to re-iterate my point:
This mouse has a know FAULT and the cursor JUMPS. Windows users can fix this with drivers, Apple users are stuffed!

Performs good with WinXP, looks excellent

First things first - mouse is comfortable/easy & flexible to use. Have configured it to switch back/forward tabs in Firefox when I tilt the mouse wheel left/right [keystroke CTRL+PAGEUP/CTRL+PAGEDOWN]
Mouse is a stunning looker - the left/right mouse 'buttons' are just areas of the mouse that you depress. The mouse has 3 LEDS on front to show it's power charge [built in battery] - also has an on/off switch underneath. The cradle is easy to place mouse into to charge - cradle needs mains power as well as USB to computer [charger came with mainland European plug from 'avides_media' even though I ordered it from amazon.co.UK for delivery etc to a UK address :-(].
Coming from a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2, MX1000 is physically large [is 10g heavier at 160g, which is surprising as Microsoft uses 2 AA batteries that last months]. Also has radio range double of Microsoft at about 10'
Would be 5 starts but it is nae cheap!
