Recommended!

Have to say, for the money this player is outstanding. Set up took no time at all. The player does not come Region Free out of the box (you need a code to change it - see other reviewers notes on that) but the picture quality is very good for such a cheap player. There are not too many fancy options and the screen menu set up menu looks a little dated but for sheer looks under your TV and playability you simply cannot go wrong at this price. Highly recommended.

Very good for the price

(4 out of 5) by Dr. D. Matthews on Dec 6, 2004 (Ely)
This player does everything it says on the tin (and more). Media compatibility is excellent and the picture quality is good. The sound quality, whilst generally good, lacks the authority of more expensive players but is nevertheless very good for the price. I found that I had to limit its dynamic range to prevent it overloading my amp with some disks; a procedure which, like all the others, is rather superficially described in the manual.

There is a "remote hack" for this machine which appears to work fine, although I have only tried it with a region 6 disc.

Whilst I've only given it 4 stars because of the sound quality, in all honesty, I doubt there is anything better out there for the price.

Region free ? - Not out of the box.

(4 out of 5) by Ken on Dec 31, 2004 (Bletchley, Bucks)
I bought this DVD as a Christmas present for my parents. Although I have not tried several of its advertised fuctions, the ones I have tried operated faultlessly.

The reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because although this dvd player can be set up to be multi-region capable, it is not set up that way by default. To change the region status you need to access instructions on the Amazon web site - which are WRONG !

To change the region status use these instructions :

between angle brackets are keys to press on the remote control.

1. Press
2. Use the key to move to the "Preferences Page" (Right x 3)
3. Press
4. Use the to move to "Default" (Down x 5)
5. Press - this will highlight the word RESET
6. Press <1>, <3>, <5>, <5>, <6>, <6>. Nothing will show on screen until you press the final key when the current region will be displayed.
7. Use the up/down arrows to select the region you want (Region zero sets the player to region free operation)
8. Press - Job done.

This criticism aside, I am very happy with this DVD player.

5 star player

(5 out of 5) by Phil on Feb 22, 2005 (England)
Superb player. Plugged it in via SCART, changed the region to zero (multi-region) using the method described in a previous review and away I went. Very slimline and small. Not noisy at all. Definitely worth the money. I have no hesitation in recommending this player.
