Bitterly Disappointing!!!!

(1 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Oct 18, 2004
After thoroughly researching the various MD and MP3 players, I decided on the Sony MZ-NH900 as the best option.

However...

Apart from the minor letdowns of sub-standard earphones, lack of decent carry-case, general plasticy appearance, the ridiculous screw-on battery compartment, and fiddly USB socket (why can't this just be incorporated into the cradle?) my main gripe is with the supplied software, which is useless.

The Sonicstage and Simpleburner software, that come on CD with the unit, crash within a few seconds of being opened. I use Windows XP Home Edition. I have reinstalled the software, but with no improvement. Furthermore, the unit is not recognised by RealOne Player, the latest version of Windows Media Player, or Nero6.

In other words, I have been unable to transfer any of my music from PC to MD.

Until Sony get there act together and either come up with some decent software of their own for Hi-MD, or negotiate with other companies (e.g. The writers of RealOne Player) there is no point in buying this MD player, or anything similar.

I am returning this item as it is a complete waste of money. Please don't bother buying it.

SNAZTASTIC

i have been using my beaten up MZ-NH600 for a long while now, and it has done me proud, having taken the brunt of a 10 feet drop down some concrete stairs and still worked.....but now none of the buttons work, so i thought it is about time i upgraded. and what an upgrade. the MZ-NH900 is sweet. the main plus point is i have upgraded my sonic stage software, which doesn't look like much compared to i-tunes, but i like it much more, and it seems a lot more stable. the playing format is pretty much standard, and what you would expect for a minidisc player of this day and age, and i am well chuffed with the purchase.

the only thing i don't get is why on earth minidiscs never caught on!!!!

if you want a top quality minidisc, at an affordable price, and with decent software, then i think you can't beat this bad boy!!
