Very pleased, but...

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 16, 2005
I love my minidisc player, and I use it everyday. I haven't been amazed by sound quality as yet, although neither have I read all the instructions, so I'm probably not recording at the highest quality! :o)

I almost always use the remote control/display, since the display on the machine isn't much good, and isn't backlit.
It looks gorgeous, does everything I want it to (recording from just about any source is brilliant), and the battery life is good.

My only real gripe (though don't let this put you off buying one!) is the Sonic Stage software it is supplied with. I have never seen a more unstable, clumsy piece of software. It crashes almost everytime I use it! Dreadful. Sony - you MUST sort this out. i-Tunes is lightyears ahead.

Very Good - But!

(3 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 15, 2005
Yes This MD is great. I got one as I wanted an Mp3 player but with more versatility.

With a 1GB MD it is better than other MP3 player (especially the little white box! which you cant even remove the battery in!)

My only disappointment is with the software for transferring Mp3s. It is NOT a simple drag and drop job. (Not in windows anyway)

If you want to play mainly Mp3s but like the idea of better features - then get an Mp3 player!

If you Love MDs, want to be able to play Mp3s as well and want better features (such as removable battery and very good battery life) then buy this:

It is a great device but the software is just awkward!

The best music player to the iPod

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 15, 2004
I receved tis item within 3 workind days. I was very impressed not just with the arrival time but the music sound quality. My sister has a mini iPod and it is not as cool as the Sony MZ-NH900. It sits really well in the charging cradle and the music transfering rate from PC to minidisc is really quick. The plus about using the disc's is that you can organise types of music on different disc rather than on the iPod where you have to search. If you are thinking of buying this model buy it on amazon. it is a humdred pounds cheaper than in all the shops. Buy it In black.

Great.. well almost.

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 13, 2005
It looks fantastic. It's tiny. It holds loads of music.

Looks promising? That's what I thought - all in all the MZ-NH900 itself is almost fabulous. Almost, I say because a few things let it down.

The internal battery last doesn't last long, use the external AA battery clip and you'll not be changing batteries for a while!

SonicStage.. The 'Real Player' of the MD World. Real Player as in buggy, doesn't work all the time and is a draw on your system. I've just updated to 2.3 and it seem to be work pretty well, as of yet.

The h/phones - bit rubbish, get your own set.

The remote - easy to use.

The 1GB disc - used to be impossible to get, is this still the case?

Overall if you are looking for a general music playout - go for the ipod, if you are looking for a MD player - this is the one for you.

Bought, Stolen... upgraded

(2 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Nov 5, 2004
I'm a huge fan of the MD format going back several years and was looking forward to trying out the new Hi-MD technology. I opted for this over the MZNH-1 as it appeared to have better battery life. Basically, pretty disappointed... battery life was 12hrs tops, the sound is thin and harsh (only noticed this as I had to go back to my old unit when this was stolen), the LCD screen is very hard to read and to top it all off, Hi-MD disks are not available to purchase and won't be for several months... so whats the point in buying a Hi-MD unit? As I say, it got stolen so I bit the bullet and went for an MP3 player... iRiver has it all over Sony at the moment!

Oh... and SonicStage is the pits too...
