Excellent product

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jul 13, 2005
I was extremely dubious of the claims made of this device as to whether it would deliver. I was not disappointed and have gone on to buy a further one for a family gift and recommend it to friends. Even being a bloke and not interested in reading the manual(!) it was pretty straight forward and the software was in my humble opinion, excellent. If you want something 'less fiddly' spend more money - enough said. I think you get superb value for money and much more with this particular model.

Fantastic storage at a great price

I love my md player, its one of the best audio products I've bought for years.

The 1gb disc is fantastic but its not essential as you can use standard MD's as well, although they work out about 300mb I think.

Sound quality on the highest setting is what you'd expect from an ordinary MD player however this does cut down greatly on the the amount you can store (just like mp3 really). The lower quality mode, really is alot lower in quality but you can just about squeeze 45 albums on the 1gb disk or 8albums on an original MD disk.

The player feels well made, and the buttons are easy to use (except the five way switch if you have big digits I guess.

My only gripe is the headphones, they are really uncomfortable.
Overall a quality product, that runs off 1 AA. Beats Ipod hands down in my opinion.

better by far

Better than any MP3 player on the market. Yes including that one. So for you people who spend 200 pounds on the little white box, you were done. hi md is infinitely better by far. I can fit 40 of my CDs onto the one disc.

Sony MZ-NH600 Silver Hi-MiniDisc Walkman

(5 out of 5) by P. D. A. WALDER on Aug 23, 2007 (West Sussex, United Kingdom)
I got the Sony MZ-NH600 Silver Hi-MiniDisc Walkman for my 40th Birthday on 23rd February 2005 from my dear Mum who sadly died of cancer on 16th July 2007.

I have been a great fan of Sony products for many years. MiniDisc is the best as far as I am concerned. From the original to MD-LP and now to this fantastic HI-MD format where you can download fron CD or the Internet music up to 45 hours on one of these excellent discs. You can even download documents and photographs on to these discs to. I have not experienced any trouble except if you do not pre-format each disc before recording on to it you may lose data and even a whole disc of music. I learnt the hard way when I forgot once and I lost a whole 45 hours of music. But otherwise it is a fantastic piece of equipment to own. With the software you can make CD's/MP3 CD's as well as MiniDiscs. As well as the 1GB HIMD discs you can also use normal standard MiniDiscs (MD80/MD74)and pre-format them to record up to 10 hours of music on one disc.

You get a USB Cable, Power Adapter, SonicStage Software and an Instruction Booklet with it as well.

It is a shame that MiniDisc (HI-MD/MD/MD-LP) is not as popular as other formats, but I will remain a great fan of it and I hope Sony will continue to produce HI-MD WALKMAN'S for as long as possible so that when my current player/recorder becomes unusable there is another one available for me to buy.

My advice is forget i-PODS and MP3 Players and buy a Sony Hi-MiniDisc Walkman instead.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SONY!!!!!!!!!

So good I bought two!

(4 out of 5) by S. Kemp on Jun 4, 2005 (UK)
Got this at such a good price I bought two. One as a replacement for the time the first finally dies. Worth buying a few 1GB discs too as not sure how much longer the format will be supported and it suits me perfectly. In fact I got rid of my ipod and much prefer this. The only lack of support is for custom playlists. It doesn't offer them which is a bit of a pain. Great sound, good battery life and a brilliant storage medium (1GB Hi-MD). Buy one now, or two even!
