I knew that this printer was already used when I bought it, but it was described as in good working condition, and the model itself has been highly rated. However, once I'd unpacked it and switched it on, it didn't work! I downloaded new drivers from Epson's website, looked at all their help-files, and it was clear that two constantly flashing red lights meant that it needed expert attention. I am no beginner, so did all I could, but decided to send it back to the private seller. He has acknowledged its return and has agreed to a full refund, but so far, after several weeks, I have not received it. So at the present time I am a very unhappy customer.

I have used Epson Printers for over 15 years and stay with this brand as it does the job. The R800 is a sleek modern looking printer with plenty of features (some you have to use the HELP feature on the cd to learn)There is a choice of type of inks you can use. It has 8 inks one being a clear fixer/sealant (this is to save you using cheap hairspray to seal your photos)It also prints full face cd/dvd media. The down side is the service cost as Epson are not cheap and control the printer with the ink counter. I found Amazon to be the cheapest buy by far on this printer and it was quickly here. Set up is easy and most things are in the box apart from a usb or firewire lead to link with your pc. Most reviews on this printer are 4 star and above for general/family use. Four Years in and just about to purchase a replacement
Well I have read through all the reviews and in the main agree with nearly all of them, both positive and negative.
Yes it is an expensive bit of kit and yes the ink cartridges cost the earth. But that is vastly outweighed by the superior print quality.
I use this printer for work and in the 4 years I have had it, it has on average produced between 50 and maybe 500 sheets of printing per day! The print quality has always been amazing only letting me down slightly in the last 6 months when black bands have been visible on the back of sheets from the rollers - this however is possibly because we changed our headed paper to include a thick black band at the top of the page which was transfering onto the rollers.
Now alas the poor thing has given up the ghost - not the print quality mind you, that when it can get paper through is still amazing, but 4 years of using all that paper has taken its toll and the rollers that feed the paper through, and it now only works on about 2 out of 10 sheets - I enquired about getting it fixed but the amount it would cost seems silly.
So why am I replacing it with the exact same model and not looking at a so called upgrade, I would like to say it's the print quality but the simple fact is I have bought my ink cartridges online in bulk for a small saving and the amount of inks I have left means that I cannot afford to waste them!

Epson Stylus PHOTO R800
A GOOD PRODEUCT BUT THE COST OF REPLACEMENT CARTIDGES IS OBSCENE. REGRET THAT I HAVE TO RESORTED TO NON EPSON CARTRIDGES AND RISK PROBLEMS (WHICH I HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED).
