Expensive to buy, even more expensive to run!

(2 out of 5) by A. K. Lewis on Jan 28, 2006 (UYK)
Sorry, but I would NOT recommend this printer!

This printer EATS cartridges (if it had a nationality, it would definately be American ;) ) and bearing in mind that each one costs nigh-on 14 bloody quid, of which there are eight of them is a blatant rip off - Epson would to very well to bear in mind that it is NOT a good idea to rip off their customers!

You can get the cartridges 'refilled' (for expample refillit.org) but again, each cartridge will still cost 6 quid to refill & has to be sent off (far from ideal) and lets face it boys and girls IT'S ONLY POXY INK!!!! - and not much of it judging by how quickly each cartridge seems to empty!

Little note here: Epson have obviously realised that their cartridges cost too much but instead of lowering the price, instead they place a little chip on each that then remembers that it is empty (regardless of the presence of any refilled ink or not!) - hence only professional refillers can be used - GEE, THANKS FOR THAT!

For the record, I make extremly LIGHT use of this printer, it's not like i'm knocking prints out left & right!

The print image in my opion is poor - the shop claimed that the images would match that of a colour photograph - pity I missed the guys blind dog. Honestly if you want nice photos, spend 3 quid on a disposable camera & a fiver(?) on the prints - the quality is so much head and shoulders above this printer (and 250 quids worth of Canon Digital Ixus50) it's emabarassing!!!!

The CD printing software is very good & easy to use, however the resulting CD images lacked contrast and colours appeared washed out.

Why oh why don't I trust my instincts & by a HP printer instead I don't know!

On the whole: extremely disappointed!

What doesn't work

(2 out of 5) by Frank Hiscox on Apr 10, 2005 (Attleborough, Norfolk United Kingdom)
It doesn't come with the latest driver installed on the CD!
It doesn't come with a USB cable!
I had a problem with printing a series of documents via my 'Mail Merge' program, it only prints around one and a half documents and then stops printing. This problem is still unresolved!

I am now seriously considering replacing it with an earlier tried and tested printer!

A brilliant machine

This is probably the best photo printer in the market unless you go for the professional machines. It is fairly economical on ink and produces photographs of excellent quality.

A love/hate relationship !!

(4 out of 5) by Clifford J. Dixon on Oct 26, 2009 (London United Kingdom)
Having read the reviews of this printer I agree with both extremes of views. When it's good it's brilliant but when not it's an expensive pain.
I've just survived the printing of a vertical rainbow/bar down the left hand side of all my photos of whatever size about 2cm in from left hand side - commencement of print - and about 2cm wide.
Flushing of heads / realigning of nozzles / and replacement of cartidges was time consuming and expensive at Epson prices - it didn't work either. Finally I uninstalled/reinstalled all the software and this solved the problem.
Quality of prints from my DSLR Nikon D80 Fine setting Large file size is stunning - just what I bought the printer for - but it is not a cheap machine and it's certainly not cheap to run with Epson inks.
I'd like to give a 5 star assessment but value for money of inks combined with the temperamental nature of this thoroughbred prevents me.
I'd be happy to get a response direct from Epson about this - the printer deserves better and so do loyal Epson customers - or are we just mugs ?
