Technical note

This player is premodified. Most of the Sony NS430's you will see elsewhere will not be - Sony do not sell multi-region players as such, certainly not the type where you just enter a code on the remote control. As a consumer, you need to pay around £30 to modify a Sony NS430. Amazon have done this for you, and somehow they are still selling it cheaper than other retailer sell unmodified players.

The other important note is that NTSC format DVD's (ie US / region 1) will only play properly with a TV that can cope with NTSC signals. The NS430 reads NTSC fine, but outputs an NTSC signal, rather than converting it to PAL for you. The usual result of using a TV that is not NTSC compatible, is a black & white picture. Most newish TVs can cope with NTSC signals, but do check if you are likely to use region 1 DVDs regularly.

Spectacular entry level bargain

This player is an ideal entry level machine yet it also has many desirable features missing from other more expensive DVD players that I have seen.

The player suits the needs of those who like to create and play video discs (VCD) as well as the slightly higher quality super video discs (SVCD) with the added bonus of not having to worry about the various DVD-R and DVD-RW variations (+ and -) because the machine plays those as well. It comes preconfigured as multi region and I even like the colour.

A friend bought this for a christmas present and it really is quite brilliant, especially at this price prompting me to order this asap. The main advantage this has over the similarly impressive looking Sony DVP-NS330 is the addition of a 6-multi disc resume, which would be useful for those that like to remove discs halfway through movies to return to later. The player also loses the playback dial, which I never liked much on VCR's and still don't on DVD players.

Excellent player in such a small package

I had been looking for a DVD player for some weeks and came across the Sony NS430 this really is an excellent player from sony ( not that I excpected anything less from them) it is very slim and stylish and packed with some great features including an optical output for connection to an amp or mini disc. I also like the way it stores the last place you viewed the disc so you can take it out and watch it later from exactly the same point as you left it. EXCELLENT PIECE OF KIT

The best value for money.

I can only agree with previous reviewers. This is my first time shopping with Amazon for electronic goods. It was mailed on a Sunday and arrived by Royal Mail on Monday, what speed considering I did not pay first class postage. Not only was it adapted for all regions DVD it did not need any fine tuning when it arrived all this and no earache about useless extended warranty you get wit other national chains. All this and £30 cheaper taan Dixons or Currys.

Sony DVP-NS430

Fantastic player for the money. I bought the previous model last year for twice the price and thought of this as little more than a second player for my second TV but rather is it just as feature-packed and has met my needs entirely. Contemporary, slick design too, sits alongside any other silver equipment nicely.
