This is a great buy. As fast as any other DVD writer on the market and the least expensive compared to other 8x speed dual format writers.

I bought this to back up video and photos and its a dream. I can fit 6 to 7 CD-ROMs worth of video and photos onto just one DVD. Plus this is a FAST CD writer (x40) so if you do want to burn a CD, this drive will do it for you *quickly*.

Here's what you get:
* a dual format drive (there are two major formats: (+R) and (-R) but what this drive means is that you don't have to worry about which of these formats is going to prevail - your drive will burn and read both)
* an instruction sheet
* 2 blank DVDs (one -R and one +R)
* an audio connector (if required)
* Sonic MyDVD software - for burning your movies or photos to DVD
* PowerDVD software - for playing back DVDs

Installation is quite easy if you're not afraid of opening up your computer. I replaced an existing CD writer with this and when I rebooted, the computer recognised the drive immediately. Great value - if you're in the market for a DVD writer, I highly recommend this one!

Simple packaging, the basic programs included (PowerDVD & MyDVD) and 2 empty DVDs, screws and an analog audio cable. Don't expect any detailed manuals but that's ok. No EIDE cables included so be sure to have a spare one. Installation is fairy easy and I've burned quite a few DVDs so far. No problems at all. Oh, it is very quiet too! I suggest it as a very good purchace, you'll not regret it.

No prblems with the install - took about 15 mins. (I swapped the DVD writer for my CD-RW drive leaving the original DVD player only in place). First time I have opened the computer - I was surprised at how easy to was to install. If you can use a screwdriver then you can install a DVD writer.

Bought one of these to upgrade a cdrw/dvd combo unit and not regretted it for a minute.
Good burn speeds, all formats ('cept dvd-ram) supported. DVD playback much better than I had before (check your DMA turned on..!)
Works a charm under linux too, so no probs for those dual-booters among us.
If you get this drive, look out for a utility ltnrpc.exe to set the region state - very useful.

Please note, I didn't read the ad fully when I bought the cheaper drive offered for from Land Of Electronics - This is an OEM item used by computer manufacturers - There is no literature, cables, software or anything else mentioned below in the package supplied. What did I expect for the price! Its still great GREAT value.
