Extremely Slow and eats batteries

(1 out of 5) by William Shaw on Jul 28, 2004 (London, UK)
You really need to read the product description carefully before you buy this product. I acquired a Minolta Dimage A2 8MP camera with a 1G compact flash card and wanted to use the iPod to store a holiday's worth of shots to take back to my Mac. I like to shoot full res TIFF, which gives about 24Meg per shot. The Belkin product is unfortunately totally unsuited for this kind of work. It is abominably slow at transferring files from the card, and eats both the iPod battery and its own batteries in the process. It only makes sense if you are happy with a once a day transfer to an iPod, and remember to recharge the iPod every time and change the media reader batteries every other time!!

If you use smaller files and lower capacity cards you might be very happy with it, but I am just waiting for someone else to release a half-decent product that will do a quick card to iPod transfer in the middle of a big shoot.

To be fair, the poor performance of this product is balanced by the convenience of dumping maybe 20G of photos to the Mac, with iPod auto-mounting to the desktop and launching iPhoto.
