Most Helpful First | Newest First | + ShareCracking DVD package at a stunning price!
The first thing that strikes you about the Prism 30080 is the Quality. It is very well made for the price and would embarrass some more well known (and more expensive!) manufacturers.
The front panel has a really 'expensive' looking mirror finish which sets off the blue LCD display well. This player looks sexy!
The rear panel boasts a wide number of sockets and even includes a digital optical out, something that is normally found on more expensive machines.
So far the machine has played every type of disk I have thrown at it and includes all the usual 'trick' features. In use the machine performs flawlessly with excellent picture quality and sound.
The remote control, however, is very directional meaning that you have to aim pretty accurately at the machine for the remote to work. This, along with the fact that the batteries for the remote were missing are the only negative points against the machine. However, these are only minor quibbles with an otherwise brilliant product. On the plus side the machine comes complete with a quality SCART lead, something that could cost you £15 upwards..
The instruction manual leaves a bit to be desired as it has been poorly translated. Sentences such as "This function is only valid for some DVD discs which has limited lever" lead to confusion but anyone who is 'Techno savvy' will be able to get the machine running in minutes. Granny, on the other hand may need some extra tuition!
As a bonus the machine has a Karaoke mode where you can plug a microphone into the socket on the front panel and sing along to the music! I haven't tried this feature out myself but it is bound to be popular with the kids and possibly also Granny!
50 films are included in the package on double-sided DVDs. The choice of films isn't brilliant but there are some good titles in there.
All-in-all this package represents excellent value for money and for less than the price of a good night out for a DVD player AND 50 films you can't go far wrong.
Sweet Stuff!
Player wise, it'll play just about anything you throw at it being region free and you also get a Scart lead to hook it up to the back of your TV set with. It's so simple to get started with - plug the Scart lead in, power the unit up, turn it on and you're away. Play DVDs, music CDs, MP3/Video discs on it as well.
The manual leaves a bit to be desired, though this seems more to be more of a trend with products in general rather than this particular unit, with badly phrased English and copy that looks like it's been fed through an online translation utility. Fortunately though as most of the user interface explains itself, you won't need the manual after a bit.
The user interface is a menu driven system, from where one can set subtitles, volume levels and so on and so forth. Onscreen display is also present so one can track running time and chapter time from the sofa without needing to squint at the blue LED screen.
The unit is very fussy about its remote control, you have to point the remote just right to get the unit to listen to it. It takes two AAA batteries.
The 50 movies bundled with the unit come on double sided discs. Don't expect any fancy features with this lot though you do get scene/chapter selection capabilities. The bundle is cross family, so there are some kiddies movies, including The Secret Garden and The BFG, right through to movies rated 12, 15 and 18. So there should be something for everybody, though it's all down to personal taste as to how naff most of these are, but when I valued them all up separately at Amazon prices, it would have worked out at about £500!
The player is a nice introduction to the world of DVD and opens up a whole new avenue of material to go out and buy. Plenty of material is now out on DVD, it will eventually replace the videotape (but not for a few more years yet) so this Prism model is a marvellous supplement to your video player. 5 out of 5.
Nice bundle
.
And you never know, you may find yourself watching some of the more questionable titles on a rainy day, when there's nothing else to do but whittle away a few hours watching mindless trash.
Great value! lots of features packed in a small box
Its great value for a DVD player-a multiregion one at that!In addition you get 50 movies-they are not exactly bestsellers but they have a good mix-family, action, thriller, kids etc.
My family are guaranteed a nice DVD- filled Christmas!
