One word of warning, stay away from 2.9.3 firmware as it is buggy (remote control randomly stops working and its not the batteries before anyone asks), stay with 2.8.2.
No need for no windows media centre PC with this kit, pure class.
Avoid at all costs
Upon receving it I was resonably pleased with it at first untill i went to connect it to the computer, which was far more difficult to do with the documentation that came with it, all i can really say was that the instructions where VERY poor, hardly explaining in lamemans terms how to set up the IP address DNS and the mask address.
After wasting nearly a whole day I gave up on it, and just used it as a normal dvd player. After afew months of using it the player started making a rattling noise and sometimes would not switch off when pressing the power button.
In all I feel i wasted my money on this dvd player

But this is more than just a DVD player. It plays DivX 3.11, 4, 5.x, XviD, VCD, SVCD, MPG, MP3 and Ogg vorbis Audio. These formats can be played from a standard CD or DVD or from the built in 80GB hard disc on which you can store your files. You can also record your own CDs and DVDs on a computer and play them on the KISS. It also has an ethernet port allowing you to connect the player to your home network and there is Web Radio if you have a broadband connection.
There's also an excellent English language forum which gives you plenty of information about the player and firmware upgrades. See www.gooddvdstuff.com.
In summary an excellent, flexible player. I'm glad I bought one.

I have had a DP508 since Christmas 03. I soon found that the firmware was already out of date. Once updated it would actually do all the things I expected it to do.
It plays DVD's, CDRom with avi and mp3 files, and audio CD's.
I have my player networked to my home PC's and can play all the mp3's on my pc's hard drive from my lounge. The built in 80 Gbyte hard disc means I can store load of files on the player and access them without the PC being on.
As I siad the player takes some getting used to and the menu structure could be simpler to use, but it is a great home network media player.
