Where do you start with this system. In my opinion, if you want a true cinema experience, don't go to the cinema if you have this. It sounds so much more realistic and i'd rather rent a dvd now than go and see a film. Plays DVD's, DVD/RW, CD and CDR's, plus the added bonus, it also reads JPEG files off CD/RW's. What more can i say?
If you're looking to upgrade your current dvd player, or are looking for one from scratch, then the Sony DAV-SC5 is just for you. Easy to install with colour coordinated plugs for all the speakers, and it also comes with 2 phono inputs, so you can enjoy your cable or sky with Dolby Pro Logic surround sound, and even your VCR, utilising the Dolby Pro Logic II which converts the audio into 5.1 for you. Great for films, music concerts and much much more. Great value for money!!
Only the best !
This is the Home Cinema System you have been looking for. All the problems with earlier Sonys like the DAV-S550 ironed out and corrected. The amazing thing is that it hardly costs more. Buy one NOW!
Excellent
Just bought my DAV system and set it up. I was concerned that the sub was a passive model but I need not have been. The sound is phenomenal. It looks great and sounds great. DVD picture quality is superb and the remote unit is a breeze to use. Unless you have a huge room, leave the bass level on OFF, its still powerful enough!!
Tuner works well and my MiniDisc sounds wonderful through this unit.
Highly recommended.
Surrounded by Sound!
Sometimes when you get something you really want, it doesn't live up to expectations. In this case the DAV-SC5 more than meet those expectations. Supreme sound quality for the money, and having a living room with a stud wall behind the sofa the free-standing speakers avoid that dreadful 'wall-vibration syndrome' that can be common in the modern home! I have experienced a friend's system costing almost twice as much as this one, and the sound quality of the Sony unit is impressive by comparison.
Go on, treat yourself!
The player itself is stylish, with an uncluttered interface and a neat front loading mechanism. As well as playing my CDs and DVDs (both with equally impressive results), the unit is also capable of handling CDs containing j-peg images (so the 'slide show' lives on - okay, maybe not such a good thing!).
Simple to set up, and more than worthy of the Sony name, this package offers incredible value for money - oh, and the neat remote controller has buttons that glow in the dark, so you can find it even with the lights out! What more could anyone possibly want?
Excellent, if only it worked!
It looks fantastic, it sounds great, and an excellent price. What could go wrong?
Quite a lot actually. I bought mine 6 months ago and have twice had to have it repaired as it seems to develop a phobia to ejecting your DVDs. It also develops a tendancy to decide for itself when it will allow you to play your DVDs, and even switch the thing on.
Maybe I have been a little unlucky with the unit I bought but I have read similar reviews on other sites. Very disappointing, and unusual, for a Sony.
