Read this if you are thinking of buying a Microsoft mouse!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Mar 31, 2004
The biggest difference between this mouse and the Microsoft offering (at the time of writing) is the size of the transmitter used to communicate with the mouse itself. For some reason Microsoft and possibly other Logitech models use a transmitter that is the size of a standard mouse - more clutter! As i use an Apple laptop this was a definite no-no. This model from Logitech uses a transmitter about the size of my little finger - much more practical. The other major difference is the fact that the mouse has an off switch, thus saving battery power. Don't get me wrong, I think Microsoft's mice are excellent and indeed pound for pound I think are better value, however for my scenario the Logitech is worth the extra couple of quid.

The mouse itself is excellent, very accurate and works up to 6 feet away (you will also recieve an extension cable for the transmitter in case you will be operating your mouse from further away). The batteries supplied are Duracell plus you also get a little pouch to store the mouse and the transmitter safely in when not being used. It was also a piece of cake to install - I placed the batteries in the mouse, plugged the transmitter in and voila! That was it! Logitech provide some software to programme the buttons, but as there is only one additional button to the standard left and right (found by pushing down on the scroll wheel) I have not used it. . Oh, and it's good for left and right-handers.

Or choose the MX 700?

(5 out of 5) by Matthew King on Feb 4, 2004 (Harrow, UK)
I went for the MX 700 purely because I wanted the extra (re-programmable) buttons, but this a superb choice too.

Unlike the MX 700 this dosn't come with rechargable batteries or a recharger, but like the MX 700 it tracks perfectly (unlike another manufacturers optical mouse) and dosn't go to sleep, so it dosn't miss the first second of movement when you come back to it.

If you are packing up your laptop every night, this is the more portable, slightly lighter and smaller choice.

Great Mouse

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 23, 2004
Ultimately easy set-up.
On/off switch gr8 function for saving battery life.
Very good quick responsive mouse.
Solidly built all included.
USB key receiver tiny, works fine.
Only drawback that its range does not exceed about 2 metres.

Now if I could only get rid of the other wires...

(5 out of 5) by Julius Cruickshank on Mar 24, 2004
I've been working on my laptop away from home for 12 months now, anything that can streamline my design environment is a blessing. This mouse in one of those.

Apart from it's accuracy and absolute ease of installation, it's a sexy bit of industrial design too. Very sleek mouse and USB connector-thingy. I may be fickle, but that matters to me and clearly Logitech who are becoming a good standard for attractive products.

Fantastic mouse, for first 4 months.

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 20, 2005
The first mouse I had was fantastic for 4 months. The left mouse button then became close to not functioning and the movement was a little irratic.

I bought this through Upgrade Options and they were fantastic in replacing this (Logitech supplied them with a brand new mouse which they then sent to me). The replacement was sent to me very promptly and touch wood I have had no problems since. I think the first mouse was just bad luck. It is a very functional mouse and great for travelling (possibly a little small if you are chained to one desk).
