The problems I'm having is playing music. I use Ogg Vorbis instead of MP3 which is why I bought this DVD-player. It does play Ogg-files.
However, some Ogg-files, say one in a hundred, hangs the player and I have to cut the power to get it back. Funnily enough, they always hang on 1 min 59 seconds. I've send an example to Kiss, but never heard from them. If I re-encode the song to Ogg again it usually works. Thankfully I can use DVD-RW so I don't waste good discs while checking.
Another, slighthly bigger problem is that quite a few Ogg-files of quality 5 or higher starts to stutter so I now encode everything at quality 3. Even then I've got two songs (out of 4000+) that stutters even at quality 3. The same song on MP3 192 kb/s variable bitrate plays without a glitch.
Oh, and it does get hot, but I usually just disconnect it when I'm not using it.
Do not buy this piece
My intention was to use this to watch movies and listen to the music, but listening to the music (MP3 or CD audio) is terrible experience. Before this piece of ****, I had Pioneer DVD player and before that Technics CD player. Both of them had a nice sound (on Technics amp and Jamo speakers).
Horrible, horrible ... stay away from Kiss player!

Nice box that one day may be a player
The unit is fairly stylish, A4 sized with minimalistic good looks, although the CD drawer is a bit clunky. Setup is very easy and in no time the machine is ready to play movies.
Ah - that's when things get a little problematic.
The first DVD plays OK up until about half way, when I decide to fast forward and the DP-1000 decides that it would be better just to lock up. A quick off/on of the power gets things back to normal and this time the fast forward works OK. I next try a few CD-Rs with a DivX movies - the machine locks up with 3 of the 7 disks.
So, I look on the web for some help and find a good site called "mpeg-playcenter". The advice points me in the direction of the Kiss site where they have just released a new version of the DP-1000 player software. The upgrade goes easy enough and now every movie - both DVD and DivX - plays perfectly. For approximately 5 minutes each then the system locks up.
OK - back to the Kiss web site for help. Hmm, they've removed the upgrade and put an apology in it's place. Yeah, I love being an unwitting beta tester!
So, the unit is now back in it's box - and a very nice box it is too. In fact, I couldn't ask for a better box.
Pity I couldn't say that about the player.
