Best player available

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 18, 2004
This is a very nice and simple Player which has played every single thing I have thrown at it...
If you are into downloading stuff off the internet, as well as watching normal DVD's then this is the best deal around....
Highly recommended.
Instlallation was nice and simple....
One problem: mine came with a EU mains plug. Had to get a shaver adaptor from DIY store.....

Very Nice...(but expect the odd hiccup)

(5 out of 5) by C Griffiths on Jan 16, 2004 (Yorkshire - United Kingdom)
Pros: Small, good picture, plays nearly everything with latest firmware update, very quiet, Good video/audio connectivity options, Useful Zoom feature.

Cons: Very rare lockups using FF/RW, had rare audio Sync trouble with some VBR mp3 audio tracks on Divx, Poor quality remote, Blue on and eject button lights far far far too bright, Didn't have a UK power lead in the box (now I'm just being picky).

Don't be put off by the Cons though; the Pro's outweigh them by a country mile. As other people have mentioned, watching a well encoded Xvid or Divx5 movie on this machine is almost as good as DVD quality, and after a few beers you definitely wouldn't notice the difference.

This machine is great if you have a collection of AVI files and are fed up with connecting a PC to the TV or watching on PC monitor.

DP 1000 is great!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 31, 2003
£99!!?? Get one before they realise they have missed a 1 off the front! This player is great. If it comes on a silver disk this player will play it. I'm more than happy with this item. I have tried many types of cd (different brands & using them as svcds/vcds/mp3/cdaudio compilations etc) & dvd, (+-rw +r -r, multiple divx/ac3divx/mp3/ogg etc on 1 disk etc. .) media & all are faultless. The only negative things I can think of is the remote sometimes needs pressing more then once to activate a command & the size of the unit doesn't really match if it is stacked with other hifi/video components as it's really small, but on its own it looks cool anyway so on these these points I'm really trying to find something bad. I would give this player 9.5/10 for value and performance.

Good Value Player

(4 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 23, 2003
For under £100 I was not too sure what to expect, however this is a very good player.

It is about the size of an A4 ream of paper and comes with all the leads required. It has a good quality finish and looks the part. It also has all the audio/video outputs an enthusiast would require.

The DVD playback is good and sound quality is great too.
It can easily be made 'region free' as described below.

The ability to upgrade the firmware is easy and gives the machine some future proofing.

It has played all the divx files I have thrown at it with no problem and I always get a full screen - which seems to be a problem with other divx players.
This player means you do not need to link your PC to a TV to watch divx films, and I get a much better picture than through my 128Mg Radeon 9000 pro TV out, plus the confort of my sofa!

I would recommend this to people who are not currently familiar with divx, as this functionality may come in useful in the future.

Very pleased with this machine and in hindsight it’s a bargain.

Brilliant Piece of Kit

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Dec 23, 2003
this dvd player is awesome i cant get over how good it is. it plays everything you stick in it and the playback is brilliant quality. plays divx 3, 4, 5 and xvid along with mpeg, mp3, ogg, svcd, vcd and dvd's of course basically everything u can think of. the only downside which isn't really that bad is that on vcd playback when the frame rate skips up in tends to stop in order to refresh itself. a minor price to pay for such a good product. also this might be repaired as kiss are releasing firmware all the time.

id give it more than five stars if i could absolutly A******
