Great design, great price, plays virtually anything,it's the best DVD player that I've had at any price, with the built in scanning technology it creates a very smooth image, and thats using a LCD projector on a screen size diagonal of approx 90 inches.
Also the support from the company (KiSS) on the web is clear and ongoing with upgrades as they become available.
I was expecting a product that was made in China, but it actually says Made in Denmark on the back, that's surprising.
But one of the most unexpected surprises of all, was when I tried a sellection of CD's,it brought out a depth of sound that I did not know was within my CD's.
In conclusion, I bought it as a DivX Xvid player, which it does perfectly, but I got the bonus of it being an excellent CD player as well. And all for £99.99 with free delivery. What a bargain.

Kiss is cool

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jan 2, 2004
Having read the reviews of others I decided to purchase this player and can only support all the positive comments it has recieved. All the divx files I own have played first time. The firmware that was on the player when it was shipped was 2.7.6 which fixed a number of problems the other reviewers have mentioned. Playback quality on the machine is excellent and the quality difference between a DVD and a divx file is hardly noticeable on an average TV. For the price this is an excellent DVD player and the divx capability makes it a must buy.

Superb

(5 out of 5) by West on Dec 18, 2003 (United Kingdom)
Well this must be the best £100 I have ever spent.
DVD play back is superb, with lots of quality features. This has played every type of media I have DivX,SVCD,Mpeg2,3 and 4.
All with better visuals than my PC can muster.
And with fast forward and zoom.
The only thing left to try is my 99min disks.
If these work then it is worth 6 Stars!!!.
The Player comes complete with a Scart lead, composite video and audio lead.
These alone would cost £30 in a high street store.

Nice box that one day may be a player

I'm sure you know the story...the old coal driven DVD player finally expires and you think that now is the time to embrace the future and purchase a machine that supports Divx and DVD. The DP-1000 had decent reviews and the specification looked good, so I just had to get it.

The unit is fairly stylish, A4 sized with minimalistic good looks, although the CD drawer is a bit clunky. Setup is very easy and in no time the machine is ready to play movies.

Ah - that's when things get a little problematic.

The first DVD plays OK up until about half way, when I decide to fast forward and the DP-1000 decides that it would be better just to lock up. A quick off/on of the power gets things back to normal and this time the fast forward works OK. I next try a few CD-Rs with a DivX movies - the machine locks up with 3 of the 7 disks.

So, I look on the web for some help and find a good site called "mpeg-playcenter". The advice points me in the direction of the Kiss site where they have just released a new version of the DP-1000 player software. The upgrade goes easy enough and now every movie - both DVD and DivX - plays perfectly. For approximately 5 minutes each then the system locks up.

OK - back to the Kiss web site for help. Hmm, they've removed the upgrade and put an apology in it's place. Yeah, I love being an unwitting beta tester!

So, the unit is now back in it's box - and a very nice box it is too. In fact, I couldn't ask for a better box.

Pity I couldn't say that about the player.

5 Stars: outstanding for the price!

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Feb 18, 2004
Firstly - Don't be put off by the delivery time - It said 1 to 2 weeks when I ordered - it arrived in 5 days!!! + The best price on the net: £99 including delivery!

I can't rate this product highly enough.

Well packaged, came with UK mains adaptor (as well as the european one) and loads of connection leads (although the manual said it doesn't?!? Also the latest firmware was installed so no need to update yet.

It is very easy on the eye, one slick mutha, quite light but this doesn't detract from the build quality. Plenty of connection options on the back for video and audio. About the size of a Sony PS2 (but half the height).

Has played virtually everything I have chucked at it: DIVX, Xvid, DVDs & SVCDs. Films with darker picture are presented beautifully, much better then my PC!
The player's menu has enough video and audio options to satisfy most.

Updating the firmware is a simple download of the Kiss website, then burning the image on to a CD. Easy.

Note to previous reviewers:
a)the front display light can be dimmed or switched off in the set-up menu including the blue button lights.
b)There may be no power off button on the box but this can be done using the remote control.

I even treated myself to a laptop case, fits perfectly, so that I can take it safely around to my mates.

My only negative is that it is not multi-region, it's locked to Region 2, I have a feeling there will be some clever chap write a bit of firmware to sort that out (please!). However I was aware of this before I bought it so no regrets.

I really recommend this for those who can't stand watching films on their PC's monitor (like me!)

Well done Kiss, amazing for the price *****
