Awesome speakers

Jul 23, 2003 - By Amazon Customer

I originally bought these speakers because I had just bought a terratec dmx6 fire and I only had a puny set of 10watt speakers.

If you want a great set of speakers I woudld definately go for the Z680's. The bass is absolutely awesome. When I first plugged them in I put on some Rage Against the Machine and I was absolutely blown away. The quality is crystal clear and even at half volume (which is ample) you'll be blown away. The different inputs (optical, coaxial, and 6 channel direct) are very useful because I can have my sound card plugged in via optical and my tv/dvd etc in via coaxial.

If you're a big music fan or just generally feel that sound is very important (in films etc) then you're gonna love these. You'll be listening to a song and you'll realize there are loads of sounds you hadn't even heard before.

The only con I can think of is that the leads are all a bit short. I only have a small room anyway so it's not a problem for me but if you really wanted to spread the speakers out then you would need to buy some longer leads.

When these speakers first came the fuse was blown in the subwoofer (rather unfortunately) and I phoned Logitec tech-support were very friendly, informative and you thought they knew what they were talking about. So the point is it's nice to know the manufacturer have a good tech-support team if anything does happen to go wrong. Just another bonus really when so many companies have god-awful tech support.

In short, if you have the money and you love sound, buy these speakers.

Who needs this much power/volume?!?!

May 14, 2006 - By Jane H. Thomson (West Lothian, Scotland, UK)

I was looking to upgrade my surround sound speaker system for my gaming set-up, as I had just bought a Xbox 360. I have looked around, at many other systems but these ones seemed to be perfect for my needs.

When then the speakers arrived (a couple of days earlier than Amazon said, kudos!) I was overcome by the sheer size of the box, the delivery man was similarly out of breath :P
I opened up the packaging, which took several minutes, to notice that the satellite speakers were significantly larger and heavier than my previous ones. The size of the sub was unbelievable, aswell as the weight!

As I was setting them up, I noticed that the speaker cable that was supplied isn't the greatest (it is very thin, probably reducing the quality of the signal since this is a powerful system), also it is quite short, the rear satellite cable isn't long enough for my requirements...this can be sorted by purchasing some new cable.

Once I had connected up the speakers, via the optical TOSlink, to my Xbox 360 I noticed a slight "white noise" when the speakers are turned on, but with no signal being sent to the satellites. This isn't much of an issue, but if you leave the system switched on, whilst watching TV etc you will notice it.
I started by testing out different types of music, at low volumes so as to not damage the amp as it was being "run-in". The clarity and range of the satellites is second to none, with no distortion on a digital input, even at maximum volume. The subwoofer is by far the most impressive piece of the whole system. I set it at minimum setting and put some Hip Hop music on.....WHOA! The bass was so powerful and consistant that my door actually moved! I would suggest placing it on a block of some sort of noise insulator/displacer underneath the sub because the sound really does reverberate down stairs.

As for modes and effects for each type of media, I would suggest:

-Stereo x2 for music
-Pro Logic 2 (movie) for films
-Dolby Digital for Computer games

If you are looking for something a bit more spectacular in your home cinema or just for your PC, look no further! The THX certification is well earned and the speakers are 100% faultless.

Want to be evicted?

Feb 4, 2004 - By Mr. P. Taylor (Bristol, UK)

Then these speakers are for you! With 185watt of pure bass at your disposle this lovely set will shake the foundations without batting an eyelid. I don't know about any other reviewers here but I've had these little babies plugged all the way up to full volume and my word are they brilliant. Even at full volume there is *no* distortion at all. With my old speakers there was a certain level that if I went past it would become muffled and distorted, not with these.

The quality of sound to me is very good especially if you're playing your music with Pro-Logic II on. I have these hooked up to my PC only at the moment via the normal jacks and the digital coax (I have a SB Audigy 2). As for watching movies well, these have Dolby Digital and DTS decoders built in and THX certified! Watching any movie is an experience and almost makes me want to buy a widescreen monitor (but that would make my TV almost obsolete and I like my TV).

For the price these speakers are not to be missed out on. It may seem pricey for just some speakers but these aren't just *any* speakers. I've had them for a while now and I don't see me changing them for a *long* while. Fantastic!

Stunning speakers

Jul 23, 2003 - By Amazon Customer

I bought these speakers a few months ago as an upgrade from my old ones. There are a few in this area of the market to chose from, creative and klipsch being the main competitors; but from other reviews I decided to go with these. I wasn't disappointed.
Set up is very easy and straight forward, and once there all connected you really notice the quality. Without the grills, you can see the metal tweeters and they do look the business, but wait till you hear them. The volume these can pump out will make your ears bleed!
A top notch product with only one draw back, the size of the box!

Worth every penny!

Oct 26, 2003 - By Amazon Customer

These really are excellent the sound is excellent
you can throw you old stereo away and use your pc
as a jukebox

Also be ready to get warning letters from the enviromental
health cause these will make sure you become the NO1 enemy
on your road

The only cons for me are the slight noise you get when there
on with no sound playing put you probably get that with most
hifi's, and as said before the cables are shortish but you can
allways treat yourself to some thicker higher quality cable

also if you want to wall mount the speakers Maplin do some neat
brackits at about 6 pound a pair and they look great.
