Sony ECM-MSD1 Camcorder Mic
I'm very pleased with this product.
I found that the internal mic on my Sony TRV-22 was quite poor and picked up most of the motor noise. I wanted something with more quality, but nothing too bulky.
The quality of this product is amazing - and so is the price! Having gone browsing in Tottenham Ct Road - London, I found this item priced at £99.00 - it's only £54.00 at Amazon and that includes P&P.

All the best things come in small packages
I stuck a self adhesive accessory shoe on the top of my Samsung MiniDV camcorder, fitted the mic (it's tiny) plugged it in, switched it on and started shooting. When I played it back through my TV (connected to a 5.1 AV amp and 6 large bass reflex speakers) I was amazed at the clarity. It's a crisp clean sound with no clipping and no camera noise even when zooming.
Nice one Sony.

Good but redundant?
This is a very high quality microphone etc. etc. BUT
Almost all sony-handycams already have brilliant microphones built in anyhow (although this works cross-platform and some cheaper cameras have lousy audio)
A plug in microphone for a camcorder is going to be for a camcorder costing £700+ and at that level, you're looking for a more professional recording device such as the Rode stereo of shotgun mics
Finally, Sony handycams can't actually fit this (despite being advertised as compatible) The attachment cold-shoe won't mount on sony camcorders (excluding the much higher spec ones where you wouldn't dream of using this) as you get the "i.hotshoe"; which is rubbish
To use it you need to get a boom-arm cold shoe adaptor, setting you back £12 - £15
The microphone is great quality and the recording is great; but it's pretty much useless in use for a camcorder, as it's pricey (for what it delivers) useless with sony handycams, and redundant for most camcorders which either have great built-in units anyhow, or you really want a microphone of great quality to go with the expensive camcorder you have bought which can actually have an external mic plugged in....

Rubbish
This Microphone is appaling, it didnt work on my camera. If you want a microphone, i recommened the schneisser mk 300 its much better.
Great little microphone
I bought this for shooting videos on my Canon 5D Mark II because the built-in mic captures the sound of the internal mechanism of the camera.
This Sony mic gives excellent sound quality and is small, light and portable - and very reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
