did the job, but confused the computer

Sep 18, 2007 - By Harry Nicholas (UK)

No-where that I researched seemed to indicate that installing a new memory bank would cause me problems. I'm no expert, but I've been using computers professionally since the 80's, and although my computer is about 4 years old, and very dusty inside, is still comparable with my wifes, which is new.
So when I had numerous hangs and crashes after much pushing and shoving to get the memory 'seated', I was surprised, and frightened out of my pants!
I've also had to re-install some of my games and some of my graphics packages, and re-activate windows, so if you get the impression (like I did) that you can just 'push the thing into the other thing' and off you go - beware.
The memory so far seems okay in itself, but performance might be faster (I do use a lot of memory by running 2-3 apps at once) but it's been slowed down again by crashes, and 'hardware acceleration' resetting.
