Pioneer DV-360S Multi Region

(5 out of 5) by Jim Hayes on Jul 25, 2003
I was searching for a multi-region DVD player to replace my Sony which was starting to develop problems switching between region codes. I read a few online reviews of this Pioneer and they were all pretty positive, so I decided to take the plunge. I am over the moon that I did - this is a superb player and I cannot rate it highly enough. The picture is sharper than my previous player, which cost nearly 4 times the price. The audio is superb and it so far has had no problems whatsoever with switching between regions. For a budget priced -player, it far exceeded my expectations. Multi-region, Dolby Digital, DTS, crystal clear picture, extremely quiet in operation plus attractive styling - what more could you want? All this and Amazon delivered it the day after I ordered it. All in all, it couldn't be a better deal.

Unbelievable for the price

I have owned a Thomson DVD player for a few months and had nothing but problems with it. I eventually decided to get this player as a replacement. I also have access to a very expensive Pioneer DV-626D, which isn't mine.

Of course the picture quality on this player is not as sharp as the 626D (it costs 300-400 pounds less, after all) but it is still of a very high standard. There are basic Visual Settings that you can modify, which include Brightness, Contrast and Chroma (Saturation levels on bright colors), which is a very nice addition and surprising to see in a cheaper player.

The OSDs on this menu are very nice looking and easy to navigate, and the remote is excellent. The tray pops open and closed very smoothly, and combined with the slim look, makes for a very slick feeling player.

This one also plays Video-CD very nicely. I haven't tried SVCD yet but this is apparently great too. Being a Pioneer player, it has had absolutely no problems playing even the cheapest of media... CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, they've all worked perfectly so far.

One thing that might be a problem for people is that the laser is very sensitive to dirt on the disc surface - if your disc is dirty or scratched, you will get some blocking on the image. This isn't a problem for me since I'm very careful with discs (just don't touch the bottom and hold it by the edges, it's not hard!!!) but it might be something to consider if your discs aren't in as-new condition.

Overall, I am very impressed, and my personal experience with Pioneer continues to go unblemished.

one cool player!

(5 out of 5) by J. HILTON on Sep 26, 2003 (Carlisle, UK)
I just bought this dvd player to replace my hitachi. This was really because I wanted to play my R1 discs without having to faddle on with my PS2 and a region free X disc.
The pioneer plays every thing I own effortlessly. Looking at our holiday photos (saved on a CD) was great.
The audio quality while playing CD's is also top notch. If you're looking for a great priced multi region player you could do a lot worse than this one!

Top dvd player

(5 out of 5) by s d welsh on Oct 19, 2003 (leeds, west yorkshire United Kingdom)
This is my first dvd player and didn't know what to expect,to my surprise everything was well documented and easy to set up. the menu's are easy to use and the picture quality is A1.The player has no problems playing any discs (region1/2/vcd/cd.etc)The only problem i had was that it played region 1 in black and white, this was easily rectified by switching settings from ntsc to pal as documented in the hand book. This player was a bargain at 69.99 (reduced from 89.99)and retails at much more in high street stores, highly recommened player get one while you can.

Pioneer DV360

(5 out of 5) by Amazon Customer on Jun 16, 2003
this is my first dvd player and i am over the moon with it. the functions that are provided for the price of the system are remarkable. it can play virtually any disk you place in it (except Divx) and has a super slim design.

i have been investigating other dvd players and have found that some have loud mechanics when playing discs, i however struggle to even hear the pioneer 360 when it is playing. the picture quality is excellent, even on my old 21'hitachi and when i can afford it i will be taking advantage of the 5.1 channels with a dolby surround sound amp.

the menu navigator is easy to use and the remote is fine with reasnoble size buttons (i hear this was a problem with another dvd i read a review on)

all in all the package is excellent. the dvd quality is excellent and it will play anything. all the functions are well thought out and touch wood it runs brillianlty.
