Unless your not up on gaming, you don't EVER say or even think about a "Budget" speaker system. Most will pay the 300quid for a sound system. But here in the shape of what amounts to a mid-range system, you have everything its triple priced brethern have to boast. Great quality sound, a cool silver design, easy setup, BIG BIG bass, the lot.
Only the lack of cable length lets this otherwise perfect system down.
When will Philips learn to build a subwhoofer with bass control? Never if this is the standard!
A must by for gamers, MP3 lovers & DVD fans.

In a nutshell amazing. This package has everything you will ever need. A thumping bass line and volume, and not forgetting its three inputs, and its remote with controls everthing. Breathtaking.
Warning to all customers wanting surround sound!!!
Overall this is a good budget budget system, but with the following major drawback
This set of speakers is not usable as a dolby 5.1 system as advertised, without the use of a specialist mini din plug to phono connection
THIS IS NOT SUPPLIED WITH THE UNIT AND IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE UK
So, if you are happy with stereo, go ahead, if you wanted surround sound like me, forget it and look elsewhere
I tried to contact Amazon regarding this issue, so far they have ignored me and offered no help whatsoever. Draw your own conclusions............
Superb boom
Wow!!! That was the expression I had when I plugged it to my DVD player. I was amazed by the sub woofer. Plenty of thump. I was very sceptical before connecting. I bought another 'budget' 5.1 speaker set, but they were dreadful, the bass no-existing. This system can be connected up to three inputs at a time, 3.5mm jack, stereo phono and 5.1 connection. My DVD player has not got a 5.1 amp built in, therefore I am connecting the speakers with stereo phono. None of these cables are included, therefore will recommend you to buy if you do not have these already. My I-Pod is connected via the 3.5mm stereo lead too. Setup is simple. This system is excellent and I am really pleased. Normally speakers on a budget are dreadful, with bass non-existent. This system has plenty of bass to fill up the room and the satellite speaker crisp. The only niggle would be the sound represented from TV, it's only controllable via the TV, unlike the DVD, where the independent controls can be used.
If you can get these speakers below £60, then get them.
great crisp clear sound...
in response to the warning, i have recently bought this set and have the DIN to phono cable wich was included in the box. maby phillips took note and started to include it. anyway this speeker system is perfect for gaming and movies, gives high quality sound, and doesnt sound blurry like some speaker sets when the bass is up.
