Best mouse I ever owned

Nov 17, 2006 - By R. Gelvin (Scotland)

I was given a cordless trackman as a present after developing RSI in my wrist from mouse use. At the time most sport was out of the question due to the pain but inside a week of starting to use the new mouse the RSI was better and (touch wood) has never returned. After using a normal mouse it takes an hour or two to get used to the new hand position, to moving the trackball with ones thumb and to the position of ones fingers over the left and right mouse buttons but after that there is no looking back. The mouse is also much more accurate than any previous mouse I have used, and I have tried a few. The connection to the base station is problem free and the single AA battery lasts an age. For best results I would use this mouse in conjunction with a gel wrist pad. A great mouse which I cannot recommend highly enough.

Nice little mover

Once you get the hang of the transfer from full hand movement to the thumb jockying involved with this mouse, you'll be cooking with gas. Its buttons are conveniently placed and no mouse I've tried sits as nicely in the hand, then again unless there's a left handed version, lefties may struggle with it.

There's only one problem with this mouse, which lies with the tracker ball: Over a period of time the tracker ball picks up dust and deposits it inside the socket. Not a problem, to just take the ball out and clean the socket, but did remind me of cleaning the old style mice. If you don't do this the ball will eventually not spin in the socket as freely, but that's it.

So, other than that you may thrill yourself with throwing the pointer as far as the eye can see with a single flick of the thumb.

Better than normal mice and the usual Logitech quality, if I could have given it 4 & 1/2 stars I would have done

Excellent, comfortable, easy to install

Mouse in comfortable, very easy to get used to and use. So easy to install that I have been using it on my work laptop as well as my own PC. My shoulder seem to like it too!! Well worth every penny.

Very good device, except...

'Logitech Cordless Trackman Wheel'

* Excellent design
* Good size
* Easy to install
* Good signal range
* No lights or glowing parts (a good thing)

BUT...

* Worked poorly in USB port (only tested on one PC) fine with PS2 adapter
* Trackball is too loose, needs more ball friction to make fine control easier
* Gets surprisingly dirty, needs regular cleaning (easy to do)

I had trouble deciding between this device and the 'Microsoft Trackball Optical Mouse'. I chose the Logitech, the Microsoft does have more ball resistance making control easier, but is not cordless.
